So Sunday August 1st a number of Austin, TX "Hellbuellies" decided we'd get together and head to a local swimming hole. There were 10 bikes total, 2 were of the "foreign" persuasion - the rest Buell's. We met up at a local gas station, fuelled up, discussed the route and headed out. Here are some pic's of the bikes.

Brian's Bike

My Bike - Pepe

Unfortunately, when we hit some blind, decreasing radius turns we had a little misfortune.

My friend Brian (XB9S) had himself a get-off and broke his leg. He was in pretty good spirits (until the EMT's moved him) and was pretty non-chalant about his condition. His remark was "I think I may have broken my leg". Turns out he snapped his femur, wound up in traction so they could re-adjust it and had some new hardware added to his leg. He's going to be in the hospital until Tuesday, then will be home for a few weeks.
I visited him in the hospital today, he and his wife are doing okay (it could have been the morphine talking on Brians part though).
The damage to the XB is not all the much, he bent his exhaust pipe (header), messed up the timing plate cover, busted the brake lever, one mirror (Bye Bye Mickey Mouse ears), and put another dent in the fuell tank (hes got 2 now).
Brian was not going that fast when he went down and is very fortunate he was wearing his helmet, things could have been alot worse if he wasnt.

Ya'll wish him well and keep him in your prayers if ya would. He's going to have a bit of a recovery time ahead of him as his Bionic leg heals up.

Having suffered a broken Femur, I know well what he is in for. Hopefully they didn't pinch the nerve in his thigh like they did mine. Glad to hear his spirits are good, and tell him from someone who has been there, the PT exercises really do help alot.

Brian...

Sorry to hear about you unexpected landing! Last summer I had a friend and her brother who had a low speed drift across the center line into the left front fender of a SUV. Totaled the bike and a left broken femur each.

I have a quote on the wallpaper of my computer that explains three situations in life on two wheels, and acts as a daily reminder to me that it could happen today!

The fact that stuff happens in general.

The fact that for those that are new to riding should expect for stuff to happen. (or when experienced riders are learning something new)

...and that when you ride a Buell, an awesome corner carver, and a true performance machine... it takes you to thrills and drives you to do it to the edge of it's/ones limits.

The quote... "Sh*t happens, more sh*t happens when you're learning, and sh*t happens a lot faster on a high performance bike!"

Everybody falls down. Some are big... some are small... but the reality of it is that everybody falls down!

Get well soon... and get back out there on your XB and do what you love again!
