Anyone used an aftermarket clutch cable on their xb? I found one thYself about half the price as stock, but wasn't sure if it was any good. Looking to replace mine since the cable is fraying at the ferule.

Thanks

seems like my stock replacement costed about $20. I would not run one that was only worth ten bucks unless I had to.

Dan, I guess you haven't bought a clutch cable in the last 10 years....

Dan, if it was 20 bucks i wouldnt have an issue buying stock.

Im wondering if the aftermarket is as good as stock.

My memory aint what it used to be.

Guell, if you really want to know more, just look it over closely. Look at the liner and the ends. Look at the cable strands etc. Compare these details to whats left of your stock one. I would like to know what you learn.
If it's the same or better, I would also like to know your source so that I can get one when I need it.

Don't forget to lube the cable end in the clutch lever.

The new stock unit has a teflon coating on the cable to reduce friction.

I know it isn't the answer you are looking for, but the new clutch cables are very nice and don't require lubing like the older cables. The teflon coating makes it easier to use too, and it will probably last longer than the one that came on your 03. I don't have any info about any aftermarket ones though.

Be sure to lubricate on a regular basis, the ferrule at the lever. I cross drilled a small hole so I can apply a drop of oil ever so often. If the ferrule goes dry, it will not rotate, causing the wire to break.

The new style was night and day different when I replaced the cable on my 03, that teflon coating makes a huge difference. The Barnett is probably just as good as the Harley part.
