I found an XB12R for sale that fell over in the garage and broke the shifter linkage and appears to have bent the selector shaft.

Is this an easy fix or a case split type operation?

I'm expecting some better pics later today and I could post them if need be.

Thanks guys.

You want to inspect the shift shaft bushing that is pressed into the case. You can access it just by removing the primary cover, and if it is damaged too, you can pull it out very easily with a small slide hammer. Dealerships can order a new bushing.

So the shift shaft can be replaced without major surgery? This is good news.

Does anybody have a pic? I looked in the knowledge vault but I couldnt locate one.

Remove the left riders footrest bracket from the frame.

Remove the shift lever and linkage from shift shaft.

Remove the clutch inspection cover and the clutch ball and ramp mechanism.

Move the primary chain adjuster to the lowest position.

Remove the primary cover.

Remove the shift shaft by slightly pressing the spring loaded detents in to clear the shift drum and pull straight outwards.

Here are some pics.

Oops...I forgot one important step...You also have to remove the primary sprocket and clutch to pull the shift shaft out of the bushing. But, once you have the primary cover off, it's one retaining clip, one nut and one bolt. Still, a very easy job.
