My CityX has started shifting from 4th to 5th all on its own around 4500 rpm. It's smoother than any automatic trans car I've ever driven... but its not supposed to do that!

blah, I just had the primary open too... (and everything is within adjustment...)

It also won't stay in 2nd gear, but its been that way for 25k miles now and is much more violent about it than this recent development.

Anyone know if the 2006+ gearset will fit into 2005 cases?

I've been taking a lot of measurements from the different transmissions, and there are several very small differences between the -2005 cases and 2006- cases just in the transmission area. The helical cut transmissions require a angular contact main output shaft bearing, and so the cases are machined just a hair differently there. It looks like you could make some parts to adapt the newer style bearings to the old cases, but it would take some measuring and fitting.

I'm fitting an early Sportster transmission to a 2007 XB case, and retaining the double row angular contact bearing, but I have to shim the countershaft fit against the left bearing.

Let me know what you think you want to do and I'll see what could be done to make it work. I have a complete 2007 trans that I won't be using if you are interested.

Just out of curiosity, how hard would it be to add a trapdoor to an XB?
I suppose it's not really worth it but I'm still a bit curious.

Eric,
What's the benefit of the Sportster tranny? And how early are you talking?

Thanks,
Bart
