Gonna be getting my hands on a small stock Turbo off of a Nissan pretty soon, should fit my bike perfectly. My bike is fairly stock, with a race ecu and straight exhaust, any advice on this project? I can handle the fabrication, just wondering about tuning, or if it will run at all.

Remember, Buell is a ball bearing motor with low oil pressure so you really want a ball bearing turbo. Lots are plain bearing meant for cars etc with lots of oil pressure. Need some way to feed the fueling under boost, so piggyback system with 3 bar map sensor needed.
As long as you keep boost low you can get away with stock compression, but over 5 psi----And a boost reference fuel pressure regulator would be nice as well.
Good luck.

Maybe you could drive a high pressure oil pump for the turbo with a supercharger? ; )

Turns out he turbo is a TSO4 out of a 3000Gt. Think that has a prayer of working? I guess I need to do a bit more research. I don't want to run too much in the way of pressure, I would be happy with a ten percent increase in power. Anybody heard of anyone doing this with a turbo off of a car before?

I don't have any experience turboing an XB, but just a heads up that a lot of turbos for cars are both oil and water cooled. Obviously we only have oil so you want to watch out for that.

There are guys on here that claim that they are getting more than 10% increases with XB9 pistons. Seems easier than dialing in a turbo. But I never built either one, so maybe I'm talking out my ass.

We are using Garrett turbos off of some Nissan in Aus on our 750's. And all the car turbos are water cooled because they are stuck under a hood not out in the wind. No need on a bike, the oil is for lubrication.

Started planning for this with a TD04 out of a 03 WRX . . but never got much more beyond the design phase.

Good luck!

So I need to solve the oiling issue and boost control, any ideas?

You can supply the turbo with oil from the oil pressure switch port. If your turbo is going to be mounted below the top height of the oil in the swingarm, you should mount a 1psi check valve inline to prevent the turbo from loading up with oil while the bike is parked.

Are you planning on running an internal or external wastegate? Either way, your base boost will be regulated by the wastegate actuator, and you can install either a mechanical or electronic boost controller to increase boost pressures above the wastegate setting.

I have LOTS of posts on my turbo XB build since 2005 on here and buelletinboard.com, so search posts I have created to read all about my build. I just recently put up a website to showcase my latest build at www.streetfighterperformance.com. Let me know if you need any info, as I have accomplished a lot with my XB.

Here is a shot of the T-fitting I use with the inline 1psi check valve to supply the turbo with oil:

Where did you get the check valve?

mcmaster.com. I was sure to verify flow before I trusted it enough to install it on the motor.
