I have had my Buell Ulysses since 2008 and its on its 2nd battery in 3.5 years. I have about 18,000 miles on the bike. Harley replaced the original battery under warranty and now the replaecment battery is straining to start the bike when cold. I keep it on a tender, but it just sucks.

Anyone using a non-harley higher amp-rated battery or suggest one to replace my OEM battery from harley?

do you maybe have something thats drawing the battery down? a dead short or something? i sell those batteries, and can honestly say they usually last longer then most all the off breeds my customers have tried.

on average 5 years, but i have had many pushing the 10 yr mark and one as old as 12 yrs.

out of all of my buells, the s1 is the only one i dont know the battery history on as i bought it just this year.

my original 03 xb has its second battery in it, which was put in shortly after i got the bike with 1000 miles on it. it had been left dead for far to long through its first winter and froze the battery. spring of 04 replacement is still in it.

my other 03 xb has its original battery in it as well as do both of my 1125's and 1 01 blast and an 04 blast.

thats why im asking if by chance it could have an excess draw on the battery? or possibly some dirty connections?

How often is it run? Daily, weekly, monthly? That will make a HUGE difference if you leave the battery connected when not riding (there is a low current drain for clock and systems)

Do you lug the engine (less than 2500 rpms) ? I find mine is happy if the rpms are kept above 3000.
