Im sure Blake or Aaron could throw some math at you to prove otherwise. Believe what you want, but there is no way in hell a 6th gear or even a 7th is going have an XB doing 160.

Maybe that Katana's speedo was typically wildly optimistic, as are many Japanese sport bike speedos.

Dyna, if DJ is a little skinny guy, he might have a point. And if there was a 20 mph tailwind it would help too.

Don't you hate riding into a strong headwind on a naked bike? But get a tailwind and you can do 100 mph on a naked bike like nothing.

Roadracing World August issue has a profile of the Hal's FX bike. They interviewed crew chief Terry Galagan and Eric Buell. EB says the FX bikes run in two configs, both with a 96.5mm bore. One is a short stroke 79.4mm revs to 8500rpm and the long stroke version is an 88.2mm revving out to only 7500rpm. EB also says the short stroke engine makes around 120hp and 135 for the long stroke on a dynojet dyno. At Road America, Ciccotto had the 4th fastest FX trap speed at 161.9mph on the AMA's official timing. Galagan said (on the Hal's radar gun) the best they had Duhamal (FX CBR) was 168mph w/o the draft and Ciccotto at 165mph. Said their bikes weigh 360-365lbs (class min 350) but they are working on it. Also said a competent Harley tuner could make a competitive engine for about $5000 and have a total cost in the bike of 20k+.

Okay..... With this thread I was trying to see what I could do to the XB12r to make it at least keep pace with a stock let's say R1. I didn't want to to have two bikes, but one I could use in both situations. On track day, I could remove the mirrors, do the tape job and at least keep up with the other bikes. Are there times when I wanna open it up to the stops and haul , sure there are. Is it safe to do that, no. I could however, easily die just pulling out my driveway and getting hit. However, I don't think about that. I was looking at what I could do to have the best of both worlds on a Buell. So now seeing that it's not possible, that's cool. I love my Buell. I love being different. I love turning heads.

My only concern is that I have one dealer on the island. If he stops dealing with Buells, I'm hosed. I don't think the new current line of Buells is gonna move anyone to buy them here in Hawaii. There's three types of bikers here in Hawaii. Cruisers and they are not interested in speed. Sport Bikers and they are interested in stunting and speed. The Buell guys which is the best of both worlds. Maybe I don't get the radical design. I almost didn't buy my M2. I just couldn't deal with that bread box airbox sticking out on the side. It was not cool and was the first thing that went on bike along with the pipe. I am hoping that my one dealer just doesn't throw their hands up and say hey, we can't move the Buell so let's drop it. That is my fear. I'm hoping that it won't come to light. I talked with my dealer today. They have a certified Buell tech, which to me, is a positive step in the right direction. In my humble opinion, I think a XB12R with a few more ponies and MPH would be a great plus to the current Buell line.

Hey I know Firebolt... I understand your concern.... the Buell is starting to get some respect. I guess I want that feeling when I roll up with my Buell, people nod their head. Sort of like the V-Max, back in the day.

yea i feel ya right before i left i went to a freind of mines on my bike and he has a 96 gsxr and me and him took a ride and i suprised him cuz he swore al bedamned that he could smoke me like a cheap cigar but i ran with him the hole way though it was alot of twistys and its an older gsxr and im a more experanced rider my bike got hella respect that day but i know as well as u and every one eles if it was an equal rider with a long strait away the gixxser would have probly walked away from me so its also my goal to keep up with the rice rockets to and i do belive that these xb's have the potential to at least run with the 600's as we can see with the fx bikes

LoL..I was thinking of putting Japanese Flags with lines drawn through them on the side of my bike.. but I don't think that will set too well here in Hawaii. Not to meeting the ration of crap I would get. But it would look kinda cool on the frames of the American Fighter layout with a cool looking 1940's pin up girl on my tank.

A stock R1 is putting down over 150 rwhp. No street Buell is gonna compete with that.

And 160-165 rwhp is about $1500 away. PC3 & a full exhaust system.

Hell some of the ZX12R's are putting down close to 180, but they are heavy assed pig bikes.

Just wondering Greg, do you think that the significantly higher HP and peak speed of the ZX12R would prove advantageous in achieving lower lap times at RA compared to an R1?

Nope. The power to weight ratio isnt there & the ZX12 is a pig in the handling dept. The chassis was developed for high speed straight runs...something the R1 was not developed for but does pretty damn well at.

The ZX10R is a sweet bike, very light & has some monster power to it. In a full on drag race between equal riders on stock bikes I think I would give the nod to the Kawi.

On the road course the bikes are pretty equal as well.

Very hard to buy a bad litre bike now days.

i still say raising the rev limit would help a bunch. power is still climbing at the rev limiter. dont know how long the lower end would last, but the last generation sportsters can turn 7500 with the same stroke.. let them spin, they will make more HP.

DJ, not putting you down dude, just given the facts. If you are having a hard time believing that the speedo on that Kat is hopelessly optomistic then I dont know what to tell you.

BTW..Dont need to ride your bike, I have owned a 600 Kat in the past & while it was a nice bike, it wasnt what I would call a real fast bike. In fact compared to real race rep bikes they are turds.
