Has anyone used a steering damper from Woodcraft on an XBxR? It looks like a great setup and is tucked under the fairing, but the website says "race only". I am wondering if this is just the standard disclaimer (ie: "You are an adult, grow up"; ) or is it too stiff for street use? Also is it adjustable? Also how does it compare to a Storz unit?

I don't know about this one that you are talking about, but I do know that some of the "race only" dampers can limit your turning radius. That is not a big deal going over 20mph, but when you are trying to park... it can really suck.

I tried both. The first setup was with Storz for XBS. Then I converted the front to XBR and been using Woodcraft (now sold by Innovative Motorcycle Research). I like them both equally. Neither of these dampers changes the turning radius. The IMR sells Woodcraft damper kit with Hyperpro damper (two version - linear and exponential types). I got the exponential type (at slow speed, the damper is hardly noticeable, and at high speed, the damper suppose to be really stiff). I rode without and with the damper. The damper smooths out the steering effect, i.e., no jerky or sudden twitching, especially when hitting potholes or bumps. I wouldn't ride without them b/c I seen the effects of tank slappers (even at low speeds).

Note: it may say "Race Only" because the wiring harness on XBR can rub against the damper. Fortunately, my wiring harness is for XBS, which means there's much less wiring going to the front. I was informed that racing XBR versions relocate the ECM and other components to the rear to lighten up the front or remove the clutter at the front. Also, with the Woodcraft version, you will need to take off the front module that holds the fairing and grind off about 1/8" at the bottom side where it joins to the main frame to make room for the damper.
