2008xb12 how long does it take for the fan to kick in at idle? Trying to figure out why my fuse for the fan keeps blowing.. |

It is temperature based, not time based. Also, if your ECM was reflashed by the dealer or you have an EBR Race ECM, that temperature threshold is higher, but the fan will pretty much always come on when you are above 15mph. |

With the key on the fan should kick on when the operating temp gets somewhere around 215-220 degrees. |

I'm no expert, but I'd tend to think that there must be wires that are worn down through the insulation and touching somewhere. Popping the fuse. The fans do crap out sometimes too. Maybe runs for a while then gets too hot? I'd look at the wiring and take a look at the fan. Does it seem to bind up? Is there debris like string or other foreign objects wound up in there? The fans can get bound up. |

Its pretty common for the fuse to blow if the fan gets hung up - anything from oil from a leaking rear rocker box gasket to a bit of debris in there can do it (one fellow even posted that a packing peanut got sucked into the fan and stopped it). |

His fan spins freely. It blows the fuse shortly after the fan kicks on. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/659014.html?1322336188 |
