Does the TPS sensor measure exact voltage at the same position 100% of the time? Or does hitting the TPS reset button in ecm spy designate a zero point in the TPS sensor?

Here is why I ask. I switched from stock to an Erik Buell Racing ECM and reset the TPS. I was not satisfied with how the bike behaved, so I went back to stock. The stock ECM throttle would not get past 9.0, so I reset TPS through ECM SPY to zero it out. I then reset TPS and started it up to make sure it ran ok which it seemed to. I flashed to the Race map settings with the correct ECM code. The bike ran like crapola and idled really low. It also surged up and down RPMs while it was warming up. I reset the TPS warm just now and it seems to run fine, but will not know how it will act with a cold start until later. Could I have initially reset the TPS with the butterfly partly open causing a false zero? It is difficult to physically eyeball if the butterfly valve is completely closed.

If I have done the TPS reset wrong, please let me know. I hope this is not too confusing.

You should always reset the TPS with the bike at operating temp, not just warm. The cold start enrichment should be 100%.

Did you hold a light pressure against the throttle while hitting the TPS reset button?

I did reset the bike at operating temperature. First time I have heard applying throttle pressure when reseting TPS. Interesting. What does the extra pressure provide?

Tuning Guide V2.0 Pg 54 How to Perform a TPS Reset

Step 5
Close the throttle with light clockwise pressure on the throttle grip. The butterfly is fully closed
if it sticks inside the manifold. It's essential, that this is done with care, as the TPS reset
needs to be done with the butterfly fully closed!

I did a couple of resets without closing throttle and it ran like crap. Following procedure to the letter made a world of difference.

I guess I am using an older version of ecmspy, because my instructions don't mention this step. Good to know. What I do is zero it out, then back out two turns, then reset TPS. I guess backing out 2 additional turns is supposed to ensure the BV is completely closed.

I'm getting ready to do another reset. So I should apply force to close (roll forward) the throttle fully, and then reset TPS?

Setting Temperature:

FWIW: Service Manual says engine temp should be 270 degrees, my VDSTS Manual says 320 degrees. I personally set at 320 degrees, figure I'll err on the side of too hot instead of too cold.

BTW: The VDSTS Software predates the ECM-Spy stuff, can't say if it's any better/worse.
