Sounds like a stupid question but I just ordered a new pair of pitbull motorcycle stands and I'm wondering what will I be able to do now then I wasn't able to do before? I bought them to do my own work on my bike. My first job will be removing rims for a tire change. Also can you lift and lower the bike safely alone or do I need a buddy? |

They can be easily used by yourself. I use one hand to hold the bike upright, then the other to position the rear stand. Once it is lined up, you don't need to hold the bike anymore, push down and the rear is off the ground. You need to do the rear before the front. Front is easier as there is no balancing involved, just stick the stem into the steering neck and then push down on the handle to lift. |

I do it alone, I know others who won't do it without a helper. In general I find it nicer to work on the bike level and slightly elevated than on its side-stand, so I tend to toss it on the stands for most things. Probably best to have a buddy near-by for the first time you try lifting the bike. Maybe obvious, but you have to put it on the rear stand before you can use the front stand. The rear stand works best if combined with spools (though with the buell's idiotic omission of spool mounts, spools generally must be mounted through the axle which means you can't take the wheel off...). If not using spools flip the brackets around on the rear stand and put the little rubber pads just rearward of those little metal pads on the bottom of the swingarm. If you are using the front stand that lifts by the bottom of the fork do it so one rubber pad is under the fork and the other is on the backside of the fork. If using a triple tree stand just make sure the pin is all the way in the stem before lifting the bike up. |
