I have an xb9, w/ racekit. I have a ULY, stock. Both are '06.

I'd like the 9 to have better topend, a little longer legs.

I'd like the Uly to have better low mph ability. Lower speed w/higher revs for technical trail duty.

Is it feasible to swap the primary gear and chain on these for my desired results?

You can swap the primary gear and chain from one to the other, only thing is you aren't going to improve top end on the 9, it just doesn't have the power.

Hey Froggy,
I do think that the top end & in Highway cruising will be better on the 9 with the gearing changed over...

Top end will be worse for sure. The XB12 has a hard enough time hitting redline as is, and it has more power. The 12 primary will make highway cruising better though.

Not sure I know where you are coming from with regards to " The XB12 has a hard enough time hitting redline as is,"

My 12 has hit the redline more times than I wish ....

Yes swapping the gearing will give the 12 more low end torque and the 9 will have more top end.

The 9 will suffer more unless you have some mods done to kick up the HP.

In fifth gear? That's where it is relevant. In gears 1-4, you just shift to the next gear.

I wish both bikes were geared lower 1 -4, but with a high 5th gear.

Doesn't sound like he is building a race bike, just wanting to stretch it out a bit. The 9 primary on the 12 motor is a total hoot though!!!

Exactly, the bike will hit some trackdays, but not try to contend for a race title.

The more I ride the Uly, the more I think I need to gear it down a bit. Doesn't respond so well under 10mph.

My 9R doesn't respond so well under 10mph either, it likes to go at least 20 but the 9 gear should help with the Uly if that's what you need.
