Hi all! I'm a new owner, and new to this forum.

I just purchased my first Buell several months ago. I am interested in swapping put the front headlight assembly and installing a Lightning Headlight assembly. I'm a fan of the larger twin headlights- any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks all! Loving this bike...

The Lightning headlights are terrible, the last thing you will want is those.

How about some Hella lights to replace your stockers? Not exactly bolt on, but you would keep the stock front fairing arrangement.

Thanks for the feedback, all...

As much as I love this bike already, I think I really like the more 'naked' look of the front without a fairing, ala the lightning. That's why I referenced that. Is a mod like that even possible? (Removing fairing, lights, speedo, etc- or is that a stupid idea?) I don't want to mess with the bike too much, i.e. Frankensteining it- but the lines on the bike are so wild, I think the front would look awesome with a different headlight setup.

On that note, my light output is super weak. Is it worth it to swap some faux-HID bulbs for my stock bulbs?

Yes the front end swap has been done. The Firebolt fairing bracket can be used if cut or you can find a Lightning fair bracket on ebay.

Either way you go you will most likely need to fabricate some kind of bracket.

Maybe you can find a street fighter style headlight from one of these websites.

If you want the naked streetfighter look and before you start scrounging for Lightning parts... have you considered cutting down you Firebolt fairing? There are a couple of people here who have done that, the best(in my opinion) belongs to No_Rice. His olive drab Firebolt with white stars a-la vintage Army markings is definitely a 'fighter. I think the Lightning light pod could be adapted in the same basic look. Be different, be the first, have the only one...it's a Buell after all!

Scroll down on this thread, you can't miss No_Rice telling you you're number 1. There are lots of other pics if you search for his threads under Pics. That's just the first one I found.

I put an HID light kit in from ddm tuning. I tried high end hella bulbs and sylvania silverstars. While they were a slight improvement over the stockers they dont last at all.

The HID kit from DDM was relatively painless to install. Kinda tight getting both balasts behind the faring but I made it work. I went with a 35 watt kit and they light output is 100% better. I can ride safely at night now.

Really? I quite like the Lightning headlights with Silverstar bulbs in them...

Hansheinen - if you get rid of your stock Firebolt components, let me know. I'm in need of a few stock parts - mainly the plastic bracket that the headlights mount to for my Firebolt.
