I was a couple blocks from home slowed for a turn, went to downshift and couldn't find my shifter. I looked down and saw it was just swinging. I was able to make it home but need the bike in the morning to go to work. I rigged 3 small zip ties to hold it till I can get to a hardware store. It is the bolt that connects the shifter to the linkage. Anyone have size and length? Is it a lock nut on the back? Doesn't seem like there is much clearance in the back. Can someone post a picture? Thanks in advance.

This is the description of the bolt:

BOLT, #10-24 X 3/4 socket hd. cap w/ scotch grip (it is marked as a grade 8).

There isn't a locknut in standard trim.

Made it to work ok. So the bolt is actually a cap bolt? Heading to Home Depot after work.

Socket head is the bolt that takes an allen wrench.

Hex head would be your standard bolt.

Good ideal to toss one or two of these in your tool kit. They seem to come out at the worst times.

Thanks all. What other random bolts should be carried as spares?

for that bolt specifically I'd get one that's a little longer and drill a small hole through it so you can put a small cotter pin through it so it can't back out

Or drill and wire it for the always cool racer look.

After the same thing happened to me, I safety wires that bolt on along with multiple others. I also use plenty of blue locktite on everything. Learned the hard way!
