Or any other Translucid color that we could buy as a package deal from buell?

You see members of this board changing colors all the time.

Just curious: Is the translucent stuff still Surlyn? For some reason I thought Surlyn couldn't be made a transparent color.......

Interesting thread. Have to admit that I am curious as well and can't wait to see the CityX in the showrooms.

Wouldnt it be cheaper to just get your wheels powdercoated black?

Personally I am waiting for whomever comes out with wheels that are the same color as brakedust & road grime. My bike has black ones & they show dirt real ez, but nearly as bad as the white ones on my CBR did. Impossible to keep those suckers clean.

Powdercoating wheels needs to be done very carefully. I the aluminum wheel was heat treated thw powder coat process can take the temper out of them and they may break.

Daves-

How much for the black from piece of the chin spoiler and black front fender? I don't think my yellow chin and fender would work with the clear blue...heheheh

translucid -- hmmmm . . . .. overly sane?

I need me some of that!

;-}

I'm with Dyna -- I want the hole BIKE to look like brake dust, bug guts, with the occasional bird strike thrown in!

Apologies then Anonymous. They told me otherwise. Time for me to let them know that I am now not a happy customer for being fibbed to.

Once again, sorry for the bad info.....

Roko,
did they tell you "Buell" wheels, or specifically the XB wheels?

Probably manufactured and plated/coated and
crated and not opened again until receiving
inspection on the way to the assembly floor.

They told me "all the Buell wheels" with the preface being, when I asked, that they "were very familiar with that particular wheel because we do all the Buell wheels for the factory".

They did do a fine job none the less, and I still would recommend their work, but I still feel a bit betrayed for some reason....

Powdercoating aluminum in all likelihood will not affect the physical properties of the alloy. Powdercoating is typically processed at 200C (400F) for 10-15 minutes. This would loosely fall into the category of age hardening. Age hardening is one of three ways to heat treat aluminum, the other two being solution heat treating and annealing. Age hardening is actually a good thing for aluminum and It happens naturally at room temperature. The process can be accelerated at temperatures between 320F - 400F. The benefit is increased yield strength, increased tensile strength and reduced elongation. So, powdercoat away.
