My stock 07 xb12r rear tires starting to wear in the center pretty good..about 6000 miles..... Well be replacing this winter and looking for other peoples opinions on whats out there...i wont need anything high race quality....thanks, kenny | ||

I just bought the Pilot Road 3s for my '10 to replace the stock Pirelli tires, and had the Pilot Powers on my '04 Buell. Loved the old ones, and the 3s are supposed to be an upgrade with dual compounds (hard in the middle for say, commuting, and soft on the sides for handling). | ||

I just finished 600 miles carving around rural Kentucky on my Pilot Road 2's on the Uly, and they did fantastic, wet or dry. No peg dragging or anything, but we maintained a nice clip. And they seem to be wearing really lightly so far. | ||

I like Pirelli/Metzlers. I have Pirellis on my Buell and I have Metzler sport-touring tires on my Triumph. I don't pay attention to the model names, they always change. That said, my friend buys really inexpensive continentals for his speed triple and gets GREAT mileage out of them. | ||

Avon Storms are a great street tire too - grippy, work well cold and last well. Not a track day tire, but a really nice all-around street tire. I've drug pegs on a 919 on deals gap on them in a light drizzle (damp road). I have PP 2CTs on my Buell now. They stick quite well, but are maybe a bit less forgiving than the Avons (and probably won't last nearly as long). They feel lighter and turn in a touch quicker, but give up some mid-corner stability. Haven't tried the PR3s yet - probably will give them a shot given the rave reviews and all the sipping. I have also had a set of PRs and PR2s and wasn't crazy about either - not horrible, just not great, especially in wet or cold conditions imo. | ||

There are a lot of good choices out there, in fact due to the popularity of the 180/55/17 size on sportbikes there is a ton of great tires for you to try, everything from sport, touring, and dirt. To date my favorite tire is the now discontinued Pirelli Diablo Strada, which was replaced by the Pirelli Angel. | ||

I've used only Pirellis. Two sets of Stradas and I'm on a set of Spotsmans. (I think that was what they were called) I don't like their wear compared to the Stradas. I think the Angels will be up next, unless Froggy finds something better. | ||

i hated the pilot roads. turn-in is slooooooow! currently running dunlop roadsmarts.... have to say, i really like em! turn-in is a little slow, but not as bad as the pilot roads.... | ||

I have run Corsa III...very confidence inspiring, all around good tire...I ran two sets of Q2's...another good tire, better turn-in than the Corsa..but the front tire does not much like paint stripes...Now I have a set of regular old Pilot Powers...excellent turn-in and grippy all the way to the edge...and they are cheap (inexpensive)... | ||

Has anyone tried both the Road 2's and Road 3's? I'm interested in knowing if the 3's are worth the additional $. Jonzin- I never ran the PR2's, but I've got PR3's on my Uly now and like them a lot. I read someplace that the rubber compounds, shape and construction are identical, the PR3 just has an improved tread pattern that sheds more water in the wet. The PR2's are known to be pretty good wet weather tires, so I doubt it makes a huge difference. | ||

I've run a set of PR2s, they aren't all that in the wet. Average at best in my view - I've had the rear step out and the front chatter. They need quite a bit of heat to work well. I haven't tried PR3s yet, but hear they are extremely good in the wet. | ||

My XB is my primary mode of transportation in the spring/summer/fall, rain or shine. I have about 6k miles on a set of PR3s and there is still at least 4k miles left in them. In the rain, they are spectacular. Waaaaay better than the Conti Road Attacks I was running before. | ||

I put over 10000 miles on a set of Bridgestone Battlax BT016s and they were great tires, but this time I've sprung for the Michelin Pilot Road 2 (2CT). So far so good! | ||

I do a lot of traveling on straight slabs is the center of the PR3's hard enough? I got just over 6k out of my stock Diablos before I corded the tire. | ||

I dont want to get on here and bash Michelins but I would have to recommend against the pilot powers. I've no experience w/ the 2CTs but as for the regular PPs - pass them over. I realize that, yes, I did go with Mich's bottom of the line sporting tire, and yes, they will save you a little chunk of change but as with so many performance related products - you get what you pay for. I took an ~800 mile trip this past w/e to western NC and drove some primo ribbons of country road. The turn in felt pretty solid but several times I felt like the rear was beginning to lose its grip way before it should have. I'll probably shoot for the power pure for the next rear and give Michelin the benefit of the doubt (I dont like mis-matching brands!) | ||

I've been rolling on my new Michelin Pilot Road 2 with 2CT tech and they are awesome. I do not consider them to be a budget tire. The Bridgestone Battlax BT016 is another great tire, but more geared for occasional track duty. | ||

I've ridden on PPs, PP2CTs and PR2s. The PPs have plenty of grip imo, definitely more than PR2s. PP2CTs have a bit more grip when leaned way over than do PPs. Note that the PR series are a totally different tire from the PP and PP2CT. The PP and PP2CT are the same except the 2CT has softer rubber on the sides. Roys, I haven't run a PR3 yet, but as a general matter the PR series are the longest lasting tire Mich. makes in our sizes. I would guess that the B series rear - the one for heavy bikes - would last a bit longer on the freeway, but that's just a guess. | ||

Too bad Pirelli discontined the Strada. Not quite as grippy as some of the others, but boy did they last. |
