It is an aircooled V-twin right under your nads, so there is quite a bit of heat given off. Actual heat experienced will vary from bike to bike, also person to person due to different individuals ergonomics, riding attire, etc. If you are in the group that does feel heat, there are many options to deal with and mitigate it.

Its quite a bit warm on the two or three times I rode the bike with just cargo pants on. The other 99.999% of the time I am riding with first gear mesh riding pants, and I don't feel anything uncomfortable then.

I have the comfort kit...

I 99.7% of the time wear my Aerostitch.
I never understood what everyone was bitching about until I took a ride in jeans on a warm summer day.

WOW.

Not bad if you have the comfort kit installed

The heat thing seems subjective, with maybe a touch of location thrown in. It has not been a big issue for me. Only noticed it being uncomfortable a few times when temps are in the high 90s and I'm riding in suburban areas.........niether are norms for me in upstate NY where I typically ride. This time of year I welcome it. YMMV

I have an 08xt with the comfort kit and odies heat blanket from special-ops and have ridden in my work shorts to work on hot days. Don`t like to ride naked like that but done it a time or two.Without the blanket too much hot air would come past the frame and seat junction and get toosty fast on the right leg but the blanket works great. Now that its cooling of at night a lot around here I`ll take the blanket out and have a heated frame and seat for the fall and spring and maybe some winter time too!

Curiously, on my '06 XB12X I was never bothered by the heat and wondered what all the fuss was (bunch of wusses?), whereas on my 'new' '09 XB12X with the comfort kit installed, it really roasts my right thigh. I used some Gorilla tape to partially block the gap between the top of the frame rail and the bottom seat edge, which was where my main issue was, and then I installed the Erik Buell Racing ECU, hoping a richer burn would lessen it. Better, but still hotter than my '06

I never really had a problem with my 08XT (with comfort kit) unless the outside temperature is in the high 90's or low 100's. Who cares at that point, everything is hot.

Other bikes that in have ridden over the years all have their own heat issues. My BMW air heads would roast my shins in hot weather. My son's Ducati monster heats up the seat big time if your stuck in traffic or riding slower. All bikes have their own issues.

I was on the Adventure Rider website over the weekend and happened to look at the manufacturers forum for Ducati's. I thought it was quite interesting reading about the complaints regarding the various Ducati's. The "it's Italian" responses and the "Ducati is a small company with small R&D budgets, deal with it" abound.

The bottom line is, we ride a boutique bike like the Ducati. They will never be perfect like the Japanese bikes. We will have to work on them, update them and sometimes agonize over them but it is the price of membership.

When I have my Buell parked with other bikes on a ride, people walk up to me and ask about my Buell. Very rarely the bikes parked next to it.

Membership has it's privileges. I would not trade my XT for any other non Buell design at this stage.

Well it's not an XT but on my wife's 07 STT, the heat from between the seat/frame junction blistered her thigh. Don't think I didn't get an earful for that.

The X and the XT are both cookers, especially here in Florida, in the summer, in Orlando stop n go traffic. We have comfort kits on both bikes and the only thing that makes riding bearable for me heatwise is proper armoured riding pants.

I rode an hour home from Orlando in 90 degree heat this past weekend with my riding pants on and had no discomfort from the heat. Hopped back on ten minutes later wearing jeans for a 2.6 mile round trip run for a pizza and my right leg was hotter than the pizza when I got home.

p.s. As an added Uly bonus, the triple tail in the forward down position with a bungie net makes a fabulous pizza carrier!!!!

Try the OEM airflow kit.

I have an 09 XT with the comfort kit installed. I lived in Florida until recently. When I wore a pair of jeans if I was on the bike for any more than 30 minutes, I'd have a heat rash on my inner thigh. It's worth it to ride the XT

Hot enough that I take my wife's ducati if its over 80 out. Even with full armored riding gear I find it uncomfortably hot (have tried in thick motoport kevlar pants, first gear mesh pants, olympia ranger II pants and leather race style pants). '09 XT with comfort kit, Erik Buell Racing ECM and wrapped headers. I'm going to try some mods next spring to hopefully make the bike rideable in the summer.

I have the X (2006 with the low seat), and it is ridiculously hot. It transmits FAR more heat to the rider than any other bike (air-cooled or not) that I have owned or ridden. However, when I had the original "tall" seat on the, it wasn't bad at all. Position makes a big difference as does filling the gaps where the heat seeps through.

You guys need to try the ODIE's Heat Blanket. I have an 08 Uly XT with comfort kit, Erik Buell Racing ECM and the front part of the heat blanket installed. I have ridden on some of the hottest days in MN and the right side heat is no longer an issue. I think the heat blanket does more to control the heat than the comfort kit did. Oh, by the way, I hate to admit that I wear regular Levi's jeans when riding, along with a good mesh motorcycle jacket, gloves and full face helmet. (See profile pic)

As a side note, I was riding a few days ago in the 60 degree temps and wished it would put out more heat. I found myself squeezing the frame with my legs to try to absorb some heat into my body.

I have an 09 XT with comfort kit. Still very hot over 90 degrees and killer heat over 100. I did not notice any difference when I installed the comfort kit. I ride with over pants.

I have to agree with the comment on Odie's heat blanket. My 09 12Scg would ROAST you when it was new. The heat blanket, a rear exhaust pipe guard from American Sport Bike, and a Corbin seat eliminated almost all the heat. I can ride in jeans above 90 degrees now and not totally bake.

I just rode all day in rain/drizzle and 40-50 degree temps. I was the only one who wasn't cold. Everyone else was on ducatis and triumphs : D

I kinda like it. 9 months out of the year the extra warmth is welcome. On the hottest summer days it's a problem, but not a show stopper.
