Mr. Cuell...

If someone is riding on the street in a way that somebody is using an RC51 to its full potential, or heck, even using an XB9 to it's full potential, they are going to die.

Until they install corner workers, full time maintenance crews, airfence, and standby ambulences on the roads you ride, an XB9 is already more bike then necessary. Not a lot more, but still more. If someone is "walking away from a Buell", then it's either because they are a better rider, or have less fear of serious injury or death, or are willing to violate far more laws.

If you are on the track, and want the best possible performing motorcycle for open class racing, then you should not own a Buell.

IMHO of course, I really don't mean to offend.

Hell, I get my kicked through the corners by a guy with an XR-650 and knobbies. A 120 HP Buell might perform better, but it won't improve MY performance.

But again, if somebody wants a great handling bike capable of blistering high speeds, and does not mind having a race replica inline four, life for them is good! The R1, ZX10, and GSXR1000 are mind numbingly fantastic executions of this genera (and will humiliate an RC-51 in the spec wars as well).

I'm with Austinrider. Quit your whinin' and just enjoy what you got. My Lightning is the most fun I've had on a bike since my '74 RD350.

Reepicheep -

This guy on the RC and I are very close in terms of skill. We are both racers with a wall of expert trophy's, but we are sane on the street. Neither of us is close to approaching the limit of our bikes on the street or for that matter on the track (when we go to a National there is always someone faster)

I love my bike. Went riding this past weekend with him on the RC, another guy on a Tuano, and another guy on a Caponord. We had talked about switching up to give everyone a different experience but when we stopped for lunch I was happy the subject never came up again because I just wanted to ride my Firebolt more. BUT, we do go down into corners with good visibility, no gravel and get on it. I can come carving up out of the corner hard on the gas the and the RC will just up and smoke me. Again, we are very equal riders and on the gas in very similar ways. I prefer my bike, but for similar amounts of money, and similar cc's we have dis-similar power. That's all. I dig the look, the frame, the forks, everything. But I am waiting for the day it crosses over from a sporty bike to a sportbike. Tech sheets are one thing and I don't waste time comparing them. I am talking about two equal riders, and eating dust.

I was thinking there was a performance upgrade.
XB Thunderstorm engine.
Different TB.
Different ECM.
Maybe just tuned different, I dunno yet.

let me preface this first. I respect erik Buell more than some would know and everything he has done. to me he is the springsteen of motorcycling, and coming from me that is a the biggest compliment I can give. I LOVE BUELLS more than I can say, yes I am on a triumph right now, that is slower and not as good handling as the buells right now. I just love bikes.

I don't really think a big jump in performance is all that needed. 160 mph in stock form is not something that you can use often. yeah it cool to say you can do it. But tell me it just a big hoot going from 0 to 100 mph. thats where its fun. after that its all cruzing. yes for the track all fine and good and yes needed. But most of us are on the street 99% of the time.
Braggin rights don't mean much to me. Maybe I am just old.
even on a in line four 0 to 100 is more fun than the rest of it.

but making a bike look like a dual purpose urban city crosser is silly in my eyes. And I am saying this from the presepective of some one who loves what comes out of east troy.
gimmicky at best, but what do I know thats just my opinon. I like some of the accessoreies theuy've come up with this year and all that.
the xb's are still very cool looking and you can not beat the chassis or the handling in my eyes.

but a city crosser....really if we are sittting here laughing and going, what the hell?

what is the rest of the sportbike community saying right now.

The translucent body work is neat, its never been done and thats cool, props to the buell folks.

but lets get real....city crosser....I ain't that stupid and marketing has never really been able to penetrate my heart.

A huge number of them care, why do you think so many are begging for more power? They just want a little respect in the sportbike community & bodywork that looks like colored windscreens aint gonna get it for them.

Yeah but from what I've seen so far the most part are from people that aren't in the market for a new bike anyway.
Except those that want a more touring type bike, they are the ones I feel for most.

Edit: I don't care. The upgrades I do and want to do I'd probably do even if it had over 100 RWHP just because I've never been one to leave well enough alone. Guess it's the hot rodder in me.

I have spoke too many folks that would love to have an american sportbike if it had more jucie. This I don't care about....maybe someday it will be there. but don't make them laugh at the bikes before they know what is really there.

if you want a dual purpose by one.....not one that looks like one....plus if we get really stupid....city crosser riders could get them selves killes very quick taking a burm on a sidewalk

I'm one of those who want the sport tourer. It's a damded shame that Buell doesn't make a new bike that is an improved version of my S3T. It's an even bigger shame since mine is in the shop with an ever growing list of parts that needs replacing and I'm stranded driving my SUV on some of the nicest days this summer.

I love my Buell and I'd love an XB12R, but I'd buy an XB12T if it was available.

I don't get this arguement that Buell shouldn't make a new because everyone who wants one already owns one. That's just dumb, why make any new bikes then?

I'm not whining about anything, I just wish that Buell would make a bike that I would buy right now. As much as I love the present XB's they don't fit my needs and wants. The S3T is great, but it would be nice to have some of the advances that have come along since the introduction of the XB series.

Blake,

For what I heard ( and read ) over here,
Is that the “old” xb9 motor concept don’t comply with the new euro emission requirements
( due to a change in regulation in that starting the first off august )
so al the “old” xb9 in yurop are registered and there no “new” bike’s on the shop floors
btw. never have seen a real xb9 mj 04 here as well
so yes me thinks they fiddled with the xb9cx Fi for euro approval
