Just noticed this Chinese exhaust on Ebay For Buell XB's -

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Carbon-Exhaust-Buell-XB9R- XB9S-XB12R-XB12-XB12S-EX361-/370537161201?pt=UK_Mo torcycle_Parts&hash=item5645bc61f1

Its got pretty nice welds , (odd configuration) , and if you Google DanMoto Exhausts , and Youtube , you get some pretty positive reviews . Anyone ?

I have no first hand experience with the product, but I can share this with you.

When I was in China nearly four years ago, almost every car I saw was a Volkswagen or a Hyundai. Most of their bikes were Chinese-made scooters. This is the level of quality they are used to. It's the level of quality they strive to achieve.

I rather a pay for an exhaust that adds enjoyment to my bike than pay for one that doesn't.

Are you implying that both Volkswagen and Hyundai are poor quality machines?

But you are right, that connection for the second "muffler" is really strange, under the right conditions it might actually form an intake as the exhaust rushes past that right angle joint.Either way that sucker will be LOUD!

Yeah , I find it a odd design . I would never buy one , because of my previous experience with Chinese made products , I just liked the nice welds .

My folks have owned two Hyundai's and they are pretty good cars , with very good warranties , as least the more $$$ models .

Maybe my shot at Hyundai was relatively uncalled for.

My Volkswagen attack is from experience.

My guide in China didn't think it was funny when I said with all of the Volkswagens on the road that I could import a tow truck and make millions.

The Chinese people take pride in what they do, but they just aren't there in the way of quality control.

Looks like one of the worst XB exhaust designs I have ever seen, and the flow must be terrible (Not to mention poor quality brackets etc)!

However you do tend to get what you pay for when it comes to exhausts, and this looks cheap in every sense ; )

Reputable companies keep their own QC staff on site in China and that makes all the difference.

I'd reject it for its design. A 2-1-2 with a right angle port is not going to flow.

Also, supposedly high quality western products have fibre to metal joins which don't last. This one appears to be using rivets.

they look absolute shite
the way they achieve those welds i have seen many times before on turbo headers etc from china, they lay a crappy weld then pulse over it to make it look good,
very poor joint too
as said you get what you pay for, thats why my stuff isn't cheap

Err, um... why would you "slice" to make a 45 out of stainless?

Titanium is one thing, I gather that it doesn't like to bend much. No first hand experience. Hell, I don't even weld. Stainless you can get in 180 degree bends or whatever you want. You'd think they'd spend money on making a smoother merge where it goes 1 back into 2 before making some fake "slice" that ends up being a 45ish bend at the exits. Silly.

Like I said earlier , I would never buy one . Just wondered if anyone knew someone who did , and what their opinion was .

There seems to be a steady decline in number of Buell Exhausts on Ebay and elsewhere . Not much to choose from , and never any new designs . If you do see something , such as a Race Pipe , its $800 bucks . Ridiculous .

My brother has been looking at his stuff for a CBR250R, basically the can is the same on everything and then pipes are cut and welded to form the basic shape needed. The problem I have with this is that the inside of the pipes are not going to be smooth.

The other pipes DanMoto makes for Metric Sport Bikes seem pretty standard (not odd looking like the XB design) and are very affordable . I guess if your looking for a cheap/loud pipe......

Cheap loud pipe with no real science behind the design to give you increased performance...

I keep trying to tell him to just plain wait, the bike has been on the market since June on none of the good makers has even started to design a proper exhaust. He looks at the Area P stuff and says it is so damn expensive, then I try to explain what they went through to build the system for the Ninja 250 (he has one of those also) and still thinks it's too much money.

They are not just a length of pipe with a can on the end, the good ones are actually tuned in length and diameter and a few other characteristics to good you the best balance of torque and HP increase.

I really wish folks would avoid calling attention to Chinese stuff on BadWeB. In fact, I think that needs to be an a new policy here. Shun the Chinese junk. If folks don't like that, they can find a pro-Chinese web site to visit.

Seems some are willing to sell their soul to save a few dollars. I'll never understand it. One day they're griping about American jobs lost to China, then the next talking up Chinese junk that competes directly with 100% made in America products.

If you want an exhaust for a Buell, look no further than the good folks that help keep this forum up and running. There are some really great Euro options as well.

They are actually really well built. A riding buddy of mine has a set on his super chicken. And still after a year of hard work, they still look and sound great. A bit loud for me but ive turned two friends on to them. I like em. and the price is not bad.

"Like I said earlier , I would never buy one . Just wondered if anyone knew someone who did , and what their opinion was ."

I agree with Blake and wont ever post Ebay China Junk on here again , I just got to wondering about it because of all the YouTube and Google reviews of people buying them for their Metric Bikes . And the pipe sounds terrible .
Is this the future for us ? Things becoming so overpriced that we have to settle for China Junk ?
I hope not .

I would love to buy a Custom Pipe from one of the guys here on BadWeb .
But this is my second year of being unemployed .

I may be shunned for this but...

A buddy of mine has danmoto on his pipes Kawi z1000. Installation sucked and fitment is sub-par at best but, the pipes sound great. Not overly loud, with a great deep tone.

Junk from china is low-priced and normally junk (lets be honest) but, the demand for the cheap chinese junk comes from overpriced alternatives.

There is an exhaust company based out of the UK that builds great quality exhausts for cheap. Welds are great, fit and finish is very solid. all at a great price. I had a "delk" slip on on my last sv650. a full stainless slip-on for under $200.

There is a MASSIVE demand for these mufflers (especially in the SV community) It's pretty much the go-to muffler. Just check out this one thread: almost 2,200 posts just about the delkevic muffler for the sv. http://forum.svrider.com/showthread.php?t=93792

I was actually disappointed when i bought my buell that delkevic has not made a muffler for us

Sorry for the rant but... i dont think there would be such a ridiculous "buell-tax" on these mufflers if one company built a decent muffler for cheap.

As others have said, $800 for a used Buell race exhaust is ridiculous

Buell mufflers are not simple slip-ons like an SV650 muffler. They have complex inlet and outlet geometry and must provide for much more robust mounting, especially for the XBikes due to vibration. They also really ought to be able to support some level of impact and even front end jacking loads.

If you've ever seen some of the higher quality mufflers built for Buells, then you wouldn't be comparing them to a simple slip-on product or complaining about the price. Try and build one yourself and you'll gain a massive appreciation for the work the better Buell muffler manufacturers perform.

the delkevic mufflers are just an off the shelf design, the actual muffler costs around £100,
my buell exhausts are hand built by me in my shed after work, so i have to source sheet, cut roll and weld it, buy in endplates, punch and flare them, cut stubs etc, buy in bends for inlet and outlet,
cut perf tube, make a db killer, cut and fold brackets, buy in packing material, assemble, weld, then box up and take to the shipping company, in the uk i charge £330 for the xb muffler to the us its $630 inc fedex delivery which costs me $150, so i think they are pretty reasonable.
some bikes are obviously easier to make exhausts for but the buells are quite involved

I can't say I've ever built an exhaust so, I don't really know all the hard work that's involved : D

Hey,

I have a Buell XB12R Firebolt 2004 and bought the Danmoto twin carbon fiber exhaust and it's connection pipes. My question where do you mount the brackets to that hold up the mufflers on the undercarriage?
