Hey everyone! I've been looking around the forum and learning a lot about buells. I recently found an 04 xb12r under 10k miles for around 3k. Problem is the owner says it needs a new VR. Maybe this is a problem with the old plug I've been reading? And the owner hasn't had it for a long time. I was wondering what everyone thinks about this? Also is 04 a year to stay away from? I heard about problems about the belt?

Most of the time the VR issue is just the plug (77 connector as its called). If it is just the connector, you can either replace it with the newer style connector or use marine grade connections from Home Depot.

They revised the VR so that if you buy a new one it will come with the new connector and a retrofit for the other end.

Actually the '04 is one of the best XBs ever built.

Well I hoping to check it out soon. Is there anyway to make sure the VR is bad and not something else? I suppose I could look at the plug for any signs of melting/corrosion. But would this be a deal for 3k? Its also got a race ecm and race pipe.

No such thing.

Likely it's love it needs.

You'll be amazed at the satisfaction . . . . a Buell responds to love like a lab puppy.

Great find. . . congratulations and welcome. You'll find an endless source of help here.

Well I haven't picked it up yet
I'm between an 04 xb12r and an 05 xb9r. I'm leaning more towards the 12 but could possibly get the 9 for cheaper. I can't make up my mind! haha

9's rev faster and higher due to the shorter stroke.
