I did the headlight mod 2 years ago to keep both lights on when switched to high beam. At the time I had a heck of a time trying to get the dang wires out of the AMP connecter to swap them. I finally ended up simply cutting the wires and doing the switch.

Now 2 years later, my low beam light goes on and off. I took a look at it this past weekend and determined that all my messing with it originally had finally started to shred the wire in the connector...one wire is literally hanging on by about 4 strands in the AMP pin connector.

What I need is to find a new AMP 4-place connector for the female side (the battery side, not the headlight side) along with 4 of the AMP pins. I'm assuming I'll have a problem getting any of the other 3 wires out of the AMP connector like I did on my first attempt, so I'll probably just cut all the wires at the connector so they're equal length, and put them in the new connector with new pins. There seems to be enough slack to do that -- and if not, I'll just crimp on some additional wire length.

Problem is, I can't seem to find where to get this connector without buying in bulk -- quantities of 100 or more. Kind of expensive to buy $60 of connectors just to get one.

Anyone have any suggestions on where to get a replacement connector?

Thanks Terry!

Looks like the pins are only sold in quantities of 100 for about $24? Jeez...$1 worth of pins is going to cost me! At least the connectors are sold in singles for a couple bucks each. Maybe I'll just add some extra wire and crimp them together instead...

My bad, I didn't look at the prices. I'll see what else I can find.

Also if I am not mistaken there is a thread on here in which someone had posted where they bought a package containing the plug and 4 pins.

I'm a bit of a geek with my mods- I like to be abel to retain stock everything, be able to put it back to stock completely if I ever want to. As such, I bought the following connectors for my Uly, and created a mini harness to go in between the factory connector. This way, I swapped the low beam to be always on, and tapped the high beam wire to trigger a relay for my fog lights....all without cutting/damaging/modifying anything on my bike : )

I bought 6 connectors (both halves) and 4 pins (also for both halves), figuring that if I had to pay for shipping maybe another Bueller would be interested. I paid about $25 shipped for it all. Anyone who wants a setup can PM me- yours for $7 shipped (to help cover cost of envelope and shipping).

PM returned Bruce, I'll mail it off at lunch today!

Here is what I did:

Notice I swapped the low beam and parking light wires, so my low beam always stays on. I tapped the high beam wire to trigger a relay for my fog lights, and the parking light wire is tapped to trigger a relay for my heated hand grips. Now when my headlight switch is on low beam, I have just low beam. When I switch it to high, I get both low and high beams and fog lights. : )

Here it is plugged in:

Cool, thanks Andy!

What you did is pretty much what I guessed based on your remark about wanting to easily put it back to stock. I figured you made a cross-connect. I see it's a good way to turn the fog lights on too. Nicely done!

With the air horn beneath my windscreen I'm pretty much out of room, so I'll just use the pieces to fix my torn up connector. :-)

Thanks again!

Hey guys, I'm in a similar situation, yesterday I was attemting the dual headlight mod on my 12Scg and I failed : (

I was unable to remove the pins to do the swap and it appears that now the connector does not have a good fit cause the lights flicker and cannot keep a good contact.

I bent the pins on the harness/battery side and so I thought that was the problem, I did my best to straighten them out only to find out that when the bike is on it actually seems that the headlight side connector seems to be the problem. Now I can't tell if its the connector or perhaps broken wires near the connector.

I hope I explained this good enough. Someone recommended just getting a Spade/Bullet connector from a local store, would I then just re-wire it myself? I looked over the links that Terry put up but I can't tell if thats what I need or if I could use your setup Andy...

Thanks in advance everyone!

Hard to tell, depends on what the problem actually is.

You could use the connectors I have (they are the same exact ones as the factory connectors) to replace the factory connectors if they are damaged...but you could easily create more trouble than good!

I would continue attempts to get yours functional or at least determine the source of your problem first, then consider replacing connectors etc.

Sounds good, I know I was probably jumping the gun, its just really annoying when you try a simple thing and it turns into a pain the ass... I saw your post as well on the other forum, thanks! I'll get back to you if I need that connector...

No problem. Sorry, I didn't look at the author names to see that it was you over there too!

You often won't get much help over there...I only show up to be entertained every once in a while and to be reminded to not drink and ride and wear my gear : p

Ok well enough of this back and forth stuff : ) I pm'd you over there but I'll keep the rest over here. After work I'm going to see what I can do. I think I'm stuck though until I can get a replacement part.

Andy, sorry I swore I sent that PM to you, oh well. I thought of an easier repair but want another opinion.

What if I bypass the whole connector and just use the type of connectors that are on our turn signals and rear taillight? Just a simple male/female connector is what I was thinking of using.

It would be removable then if I ever need to pull the headlight assembly. Otherwise it does the job of connecting the wires together(unless I'm missing something). Is that connector necessary?

That would work, just make sure you have really good, clean connections.

I'm a bit of a stickler on things being stock....so I wouldn't do it. ...but it's not my bike is it? : )

There is nothing magical about the AMP connector, other than it is a good, solid connector that clamps down on the insulation of the wire to keep it from being pulled out.

Yeah that is my biggest concern, it is a bumpy environment and it would be a 'holy crap' moment if your lights flickered off at night.

Question on the setup you offered to me: Does it utilize the factory white connector? If so what about mine that is damaged? Can your's be used w/o the white oem connector? And also does your's allow for the dual-headlight mod (which was my initial intention)?

Sorry for all the questions, just want to get this done right...Thanks Andy!

My pieces ARE the OEM connectors and pics! So if you want to simply replace the OEM connector, this would work great as well. I just used it to make a jumpe rin the middle.

Yes, you could use it to do the dual headlight mod, just connect the pins in the right places.

Sorry to resurrect and ancient thread, but dose anyone have a spare set of the connectors/sockets that the OP is describing? I am having the same issue, and I'd rather not cut and solder everything together.
