Quick question, anyone have a picture of the oil fittings for the oil cooler near the oil filter, or know where there's a microfiche online to look at the fitting on there.

I'm assuming this is a stock item. I have a 90* elbow that's coming out near the filter for the cooler. It's a mess at the moment. Trying to replace it, anyone else this?

What do you mean by "a mess"?

If the fittings are leaking oil at fitting (1), then remove the fittings and switch (2) and use threadseal (household teflon putty type thread sealer) on the threads. No special tools needed for removal of those parts. The switch took a deep well larger diameter 6 wall socket.

I suspect he means fitting #1 in the drawing above. It's a 90 degree elbow, male 1/8" NPT (I believe that's the correct size) on end, female 45 degree flare on the other. Fittings like this are a PITA because you need to tighten it sufficiently to get the pipe threads to seal oil-tight, BUT you also need to "clock" it so it is oriented correctly for the oil hose to connect to it. It's common to have a fitting like this ALMOST tight enough when it's clocked properly. You then have a choice of hoping that's tight enough, or hoping you can tighten it another 360 degrees without wringing it off.

You could just try removing the old fitting, cleaning it off, applying fresh teflon tape to the pipe threads, and carefully reinstall it. If you do decide to replace it, you should be able to find this fitting at a good auto parts store or an industrial supply house.

Thanks all. Parts 1 and 19 don't want to stay coupled together. I hope/pray we got it fixed last night, but I ordered the parts at my local dealer (of course I hung up the phone and thought, "I just f'd myself").

The real problem is I have a Beson (Bison?) exhaust, and it was rubbing the fitting. We have clearance now and fortunately, there's no damage to the pipe.

It's a weird thing, every weekend I've been to the track this year, I've had a mechanical except the last one. I pulled the bike off the trailer and had a belly pan full of oil. But everything looks good now. Thanks.

Interesting that part 1 and 19 don't want to stay together. Good thing to order both. Also interesting your exhaust has tight clearances around there.

The exhaust headers are shaped quite a bit different than most of the other exhausts I've seen.

This is how close they are.



Everything looks good, but I'm gonna purchase the other oil line as well and replace them both when we do the rebuild. Another buell racer made a good point in saying that it's either to replace parts before they fail and then you have spares.

Since that bolt only keep compression on the brass fitting (in the photo) and oil tube you could safety wire it and loc-tite(blue at least) it.
