I was riding home the other day and pulled up to a stop sign. As I stopped, my bike (9R) cut out...I hit the starter and as I did, the "Service Engine" light flashed on and both needles swept over as though I had just turned it on...the bike started fine and I rode home with no problems at all. When I got home I found my tripmeters (1, 2 and F) had all reset - odometer was ok and the time on my clock was off by a few hours.

anyone experienced anything like this before? It's happened twice in just over a month or so, but the bike runs great otherwise.

Howdy Lpowel02 Just a Guess here but Check to see that both your battery cables are Super TIGHT.. if you lose a connection for a split second what you described could be caused by that.. OR any other thing that could cause a quick lost of juice... GooD Luck

Engine light = trouble code
Make a jumper and read the code, find out a little info on your hickup.

the engine light turned off as soon as the needles swept and before I restarted...I would imagine this means I can't get a code...is that correct?

The code would be stored if it was a code... I think the power just tripped on you like you think. I would go as far as tracing the wires and making sure there are no spots that are rubbed through as well..

Lpowel02-

I had the same problem. I tried several things. I made sure the battery cables where secure and sat with a beer and stared for several minutes.

I finially decided that the battery strap might be the issue. The battery strap is the most difficult thing in the world to fasten, but after I managed to get it fastened the problem went away. I have put on about an additional 1000 miles since and all is well.

Hope this helps.

Trevor - I will make sure to follow your instructions closely - the beer/sit/stare step will be revisited many times I'm sure.

thanks to all for the suggestions/ideas.
