Last week, prior to a weekend ride in west central Wisconsin, I installed a new Erik Buell Racing ECM. I purchased the ECM for a stock pipe with a K&N Filter. I put around 600 miles on it over the week end after installation.

I eliminated the existing factory mount and fashioned a silicone sponge bed for the ECM to lay in just below the original mount location. No chance of connector damage and is easy to remove.

After performing the TPS reset, the cold motor idle was around 1800 rpm and reduced to normal during the required 10 minuet run. The 1800 rpm cold idle is much smother than the standard low speed during warm up. The motor does not look like it is shaking itself to death.

When out riding the bike, there is a very noticeable difference in performance. The bike seems to rev more freely. It is hard to explain but just runs better. The motor also does not seem to get as hot as before. I know this is subjective, but after a person rides 32K miles on a bike, I believe it to be an accurate feeling. Perhaps the richer mixture is more appropriate to the needs of the motor.

Erik Buell Racing shipped the unit the same day it was ordered and it arrived at my house the next day. Great folks to work with!

All in all, I am very happy with the upgrade.

+1

I had very similar results on my 2008 XB12Ss with what sounds like the same ECM (stock pipe + K&N air filter). Excellent upgrade!

I'm glad to hear this - my ECM is broken on my XB12R rebuild project, and I plan on running a K&N with a stock pipe for at least 1 season. I will be purchasing a Erik Buell Racing ECM for the bike soon.

How broken is broken? Does it operate and the case is cracked or it does not operate (and the case is cracked). There are some conditions that might be fixed depending on the condition it is in.
