I dropped a piece of ziptie, about 3", into the crankcase.

Grabbed a flashlight to look in and the lens and something else fell out. I got the len but the other piece went in the crankcase too. Pretty sure it was a maglite type switch seeing as that's not there either. Pretty sure it's another plastic piece.

Any bright ideas on how to fix this?

How did it go into the crankcase? Are the jugs off the motor?

I would get one of those small adjustable mirrors and see if you can locate it in there first

Sounds like something that would have happened to me. Keep digging till you find it the easy way cause you dont wanna find it the hard way! If you have to find someone with a borescope to find it.

So I bought a mechanics claw for about $8 and after 20 minutes of fishing, I got the piece of ziptie out. Yeah.

Still trying to get the other piece. I think it's about 3/8" diameter with an 1/8" hole. Pretty sure it's plastic.

I'm about 90% sure it fell in, I can't find it anywhere else.

Man, I hate it when something like that happens. I dropped a little ~1/4" x ~1/4" hose clamp retainer into the turbocharger outlet of my Volvo 940T on Monday while replacing the turbo/intercooler hoses. I got a refrigerator magnet, taped it to a piece of coathanger wire, and fished around in there until I finally retrieved it. Whew!

Good luck in finding that other piece. The only problem I can think of a piece of plastic causing would be if it somehow got lodged in the oil passage to the scavenging side of the oil pump, and I think it's too big for that to happen.

I feel your pain. I dropped the little cable end that connects the clutch cable to the arm down into the case. I thought the side cover was going to have to come off. Got a piece of wire and put a hook on it, I could feel it in there and by some miracle, it hooked around the piece and I pulled it out. Search for 'mechanical miracle' on here and see the pic.

There's a hex plug on the bottom of the right hand half of the crankcase. This plug is at the bottom of the oil passage that goes from the bottom of the crankcase to the intake for the scavenging section of the oil pump. Brumbear's idea might be good to try there- pull the plug and shoot air up through the opening.

fyi: I was able to fish it out just now, today. I had siphoned out the oil in the case and I could see the ledge. I had some old aluminum house wire around and was able to bend it such a way that it would go below the ledge from the back.

btw, it was a bigger piece than I thought. It would have done some real damage.

Three days at it but, finally, success.
