I'm planning on making an emulator. I dug up this old thread. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=32777&post=332834#POST332834 10K resistor, no problem. What does the 1K2 notation for the other resistor mean? 1.2K Ohms? 1K, 2w (huge)? Also, the BC337 transistor supposedly can be substituted with a 2N4401: Is this true? | ||

OK. So, they didn't have a 1.2K ohm resistor, so I picked up a 1K ohm, and a 220 ohm. Will the extra 20 ohms make a difference? | ||

You can probably get away with the 1K. I'm having a hard time figuring out what is happening with the control and device. Is the motor really a 12 volt device or is it 5 volts regulated? If twelve then I can understand it, but if 5 then I don't know why that resistor is in there. I have a 9R so I can't look in the book to help. So I would suggest measuring the voltage on a working system between ground and the white wire. I would guess the tolerance on that bias resistor is probably 2K to 1K, but again just a guess. So in short I don't think the extra 20 ohms will be an issue. And the more I think about this, it is probably better to use a 10K between power and the white wire (pull up resistor). So let me go through what I think is happening: -------------------------------------------- During the closed low RPM that white wire remains high (+v) When the valve is supposed to do whatever it does, the white wire is pulled low. This cause the transistor to conduct and pull the tan wire low. -------------------------------------------- That is unless it is the opposite, I didn't look to see if the transistor was an NPN or a PNP so my description could be backwards. The resistor for power (1.2K) is used to make sure that the pull up does not draw too much current, which is why I say a second 10K might do the job. | ||

That sounds logical to me. I did get a package of 10K resistors. I will see if my multimeter at work actually still works. If not, it's time to get a new one (been 10 years). Anyone out there have a multimeter and a 12? It will take me a couple days to get this done. I have the cage tomorrow.
