Hey guys,

I've been reading a few threads about how loud the XB fuel pump is. I've got a 2005 xb9sx with 7500 miles i just purchased about 1 month ago. I couldn't figure out if it's normal for it to run this loud or not, so decided to make a video. Can you guys check it out and tell me if you think this is normal? It's just so..... LOUD.

Thanks!

Well, thats quite a bit louder than any other XB fuel pump I've ever heard....

Also, none of mine ever sounded like a cat stuck in a meat grinder.

Mine is only loud for a second or two, while it builds pressure. After that, I can't hear it at all. I have a 2008 with almost 17,000.

Mine only makes noise for the first second or two. It is silent after that.

ok - thanks for the replies guys.

now for the diagnostics, should I try fuel pressure system test first? Or just take to dealer to take care of everything?

(i don't really have time to take it apart, etc. and it's warm so I just want to ride...)

OR has anyone ever swapped a fuel pump themselves? could use some advice (in addition to what they write about in the service manual - which btw I only have the xb9r one but hopefully enough parts are the same to not make a difference).

Thanks!!

If it isn't under warrentee I do everything myself hell even if it is I do it myself. A fuel pump is doable for sure but you need to be a mechanically inclined person

here's my plan - get ECM spy and see if anything comes up there. With a noise that loud something should come up. If nothing shows up - I'll just live with it I think until it dies and then figure it out. Unless someone is in 07094 area and wants to make a few bucks helping me to do this? hmmm??

I'd buy another one and change it, something isn't right.
