Hello all,

My name is Andrew and I have owned an XB9S for the past three years. I appreciate all the help on these forums, I know they have been a help to me. I was hoping to ask some questions about ECMspy and data logging. I just bought my cable and got the program. The only thing I have accomplished thus far was to reset my TPS and adjusted the AFV to 100%. After doing some reading I realized that the number on the AFV was not critical, just that it was consistent through all RPM/throttle ranges.

As I said, I have an 03 XB9S that has the Buell racing exhaust and a K&N air filter. My biggest question is about data logging/closed loop learn on the ecmspy. Through my research I have realized I need to ride the bike at the different zones as specified by RPM and throttle position in order to find what my bike is setting the AFV to be. If it is all over the place I will pick 100 and adjust the map accordingly. But doesn't the ECM only adjust the AFV in closed loop learning mode? As shown on the tuning guide, this only occurs for a very small RPM and throttle range. If I want to adjust the bike over as much of the throttle and RPM ranges as I can, do I need data logging?

I have the stock narrowband O2 sensor (I believe at least, I am not the first owner). Is it possible to tune the majority of the map without setting up data logging on a narrowband O2? I have nothing against data logging, I just don't have any experience with it and I don't mind if I have to go for a few 30 minute rides while the ECM adjusts. I think I am going to keep my mixture at stoich, 14.7, to conserve gas. This mixture should still allow me to have a little fun as well and if I decide to change it, I can always adjust my AFV to like 120% and turn off closed loop learn (right?).
If I do need data logging, do you guys suggest MSQ? Also, one final question, when I reset my TPS(which was off btw) yesterday and adjusted my AFV (from 90.9 to 100), the bike started running a little better, but now it takes significantly longer to return to idle and there seems to be more popping/small backfires than before. I know this is zone 2 and 3 but I can't figure out why my TPS and AFV affected it this much. Do you guys suggest I adjust that section of the map or do the data logging. I also read the popping may not be possible to eliminate because my two port Buell racing exhaust lets so much air back in.

If this is not the right place to post this please let me know.

Thanks for all your help!

Andrew

Wow, that's an awesome thread. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for that.

One other question that hasn't been answered though. Can anyone think of a reason adjusting the AFV from 90.9 to 100 and raising the idle a bit caused the bike to now take much longer to return to idle? To be honest I haven't had a chance to reset back to 90.9 and lower the idle to see if that will fix it with finals and all but my question is more concept than anything.

Thanks again.

you always want it at 100. once you start megalogging it will clean up your idle and everything. to make the bike run alot more efficient.
