I would like to say hello & share a couple details.I have 06 XB 12Ss that I bought new in 10-06. I am a commuter 27 plus miles one way 5 days a week rain or shine missing only icey days & bike now has 59+k. Bottom line bike sees lots of rainey days. I said that to say this.My brake side rear wheel bearing fails every 10-12 thousand miles & hub always has water in it.(no it never sees a car wash in fact it has not been washed in over 2 years & yes it is dirty)Also I am on my 3rd belt. The 1st one lasted 23+k 2nd only 20+ & 3rd only 14+. The 1st 2 are cracked really bad on inside but last one was just starting to crack. These two items get under my skin because I got over 80K on one fxr belt before it tore partially into & 60k on another before selling bike with no bearing trouble out of either.However I would say bike serves me well. Tim, welcome to Badweb. I am glad to see you are one of the many who have had plenty of enjoyment out of your bike. The bearing problem is common among those that frequent the rain. There is a fix, unfortunatally it isn't cheap. It requires you to replace the rear wheel with the new version with 3 bearings and dust seals. This is called the 2010 wheel because it came standard on the 2010 bikes. It will retrofit onto your bike with a new axle. The belt cracking is normal and does not affect the service life, assuming they are light surface cracks. I still recommend replacement every 30,000 miles regardless of belt condition. | ||

Froggy Thanks for the info on 2010 wheel. I have always wondered why wheels did not have seperate seals. My last belt looked much better, but only lasted less than 15k & it was supposed to be an updated version. All three were made by Good Year. | ||

Cheaper: fewer manufacturing processes fewer parts (seals) The 2010 wheel kit includes a wheel, 3 bearings 2 spacers, 2 seals and a new coated axle. Check with Al at American Sport Bike. They sell the wheel kit and will install the hardware before shipping for a nominal fee. | ||

How much is the 2010 wheel kit, and can you get it in any normal buell color? | ||

The 2010 wheel, axle, spacer, bearings, and seals is just under $400. You should be able to get them in any color offered on the 2010 bikes, but at this point, who knows? |
