I've never done a bike shipment. Can anyone give advice on who to use, etc...Shipping from NC to UT. I've read that you have to drain fuel as well...I would have to get my house sitter to figure out how to do that. Maybe let the bike run in neutral for X hours till it runs dry?

Please advise me..

Thanks,

Jason

no jason do not idle your bike till it runs out of fuel. for one thing it would take a damn long time. i can ride for 2and a half hours on the highway, so at an idle it would probably take 2 full days and nights to go through a full tank. the poor motor would overheat long before that. should be a simple matter to loosen the fuel pressure fitting at the lower rear left side of the frame, and use the on board fuel pump to run the fuel out into a suitable container. or you could get two strong guys to each grab a wheel, and invert the bike, draining the fuel into a suitable container. my xb was shipped to alaska with fuel in it. my friends triumph was shipped from california wit fuel. the carrier in each instance wanted "less than half a tank" in the bike, but did not actually inspect the motorcycles. good luck. dean

Shop around cause the prices vary considerably!
I have never shipped anything, but I have gotten some online quotes, some are reasonable and some are laughable.

Check with Allied motorcycle shipping. I had my bike shipped over from Montana to Washington DC area. The cost of the used Bike included, but got the bike in about a week. My housemate got his bike delivered from Florida for $450. He got his bike within a week. We both were impressed with the service.

Jason, I had my 9S shipped from Miami, FL to central New Jersey by a company in Alabama (256) 852-5535 for $260. It had gas in it and didn't seem to be a problem. If I remember it took about 4 days. BTW, its less money if you have it picked up and delivered to a business address rather than a residential address.

Having moved around the world several times while with Uncle Sam I would advise you use somebody that has experience in shipping motorcycles. The first few moves by a straight moving company destroyed most of my big household goods and dented my '72 Triumph 650 Tiger that I had just restored. If you use a moving company it may be cheaper but I would build my own crate with very strong tiedowns and buy some quality straps. After packing my own bike I haven't had a problem.

Jason,
I shipped my M2 from Washington state to Wisconsin. Just wheel it to their pickup point and then pick it up at the other end when it arrives. No worry about the fuel or oil.

There are other options, but these are the only ones I have direct experience with.

What Do I Have To Do To Get The Bike Ready For Shipping?
There is no need to drain the gas tank or disconnect the battery. This is great if you are shipping your bike to a rally or to a vacation spot. If you have hard bags or a trunk, you can pack them to your hears content however, YOU are responsible for the contents so please make sure they are locked. We only need to be able to move your bike on to the trailer and maneuver it into position.

Forward Air works well if you are going between major airports. I have found them cheaper and faster than Federal. Both are reliable and easy.
