So I finally got my tag and took the xb out for a 45 minute ride. It ran great. The one thing I noticed is that my crotch got hot from the Header/engine. What can I use to put under the seat to help block it?

first ride and 45 mins later it's too hot for your "crotch"? Sounds like you bought the wrong kind of motorcycle. check into trading to Erik Buell Racing for one of them fine Austrian powered bikes. I'm sure he'll make you a deal. He's all about customer service...

The link from firebolt above. I have the heat shield it works good. I put it in the summer time and take it out for winter.

I have heard of asses and right legs getting hot after long rides or being stuck in traffic, but never crotches and under 45 minutes, hence I was wondering if your attire may be responsible.

I see you have a 2010 bike, how many miles do you have on it? Have you had any services done to it? I can't tell you for sure but there was a thread going around a while back that there is a flash for the 2009 & some 2010 bikes. It is suppose to make the fan run sooner and also make the engine run cooler. I have a 2009 bike that I will be taking in soon for it's 1,000 mile service and will ask for this updated flash. Maybe it is something for you to look at.

I have 63 miles on it. The fan seems to come on when it is supposed to. I just ordered the parts from HD to do the airscoop mod and I am looking into different heat resistant insulation to install under seat and under the air box.

Wrap header with DEI Titanium wrap and use some of their firewall heat shield or one of the thinner heat shield products. You can get both at better Advance auto stores. I do suggest having a summer and winter seat if you live in the colder areas, the extra heat makes a huge difference on those colder days.

Another thing you can do is wear bike shorts. The chamois helps insulate you a bit.

The best thing you can do is get some ventilation down there. I've gone to the beads that taxi drivers use. Cheap at Walmart, but needs to be slightly reworked. I've painted it black since this picture was taken and it looks slightly less hideous. It works great though! It's the single best modification I've done to my bike.

Install the comfort kit, wrap the headers and put a bit of weatherstripping between the seat edge and the frame/tank. The weatherstrip stops the hot air blowing out onto the thigh area. Big improvement for the smallest investment of time/money.

Any pics of how you did the weatherstripping? Thought about this myself.

So the parts for the finally came in to the local HD. Took all of about 5 minutes to install rightside airscoop. I don't think it looks bad at all. We will see how it cools on the way to work tomorrow. Hey tiltcylinder, I would also like to see how you did the weatherstrip around the seat.

Sifo, It's been killing me. I had to get this out there. Not sure if I want my butt riding on beads. Sorry if you didn't think it was a bit funny.

Sifo, I use the beaded wal-mart seat cover as well to keep cool in the summer. Be aware that as they age and the urethane coating comes off the wood beads, they will start to splinter and tear up your seat.

It's not the seat I'd be worried about.

I had a 20 mile ride to work and back today. I only heard the fan kick on twice. Defiently a good investment on the rightside air scoop

Damn straight. I'll take no offense to any derogatory comments I get. I know how much better it is with my love beads.

Pkforbes87, thanks for the warning. I'll keep an eye on them. I would happily replace them yearly if needed.

It's a simple 'D' shaped weatherstripping used in trucks to seal the side bin doors and such, the self adhesive side is on the flat of the 'D'. Run it from the airbox cover to the snap in 'vents'. Squishes down and seals nicely. I'm sure a bit of decent foam weatherstrip would work fine as well.
You can see the header wrap, grip pads, comfort kit shroud and Erik Buell Racing race ecm. You can't see the tall seat and the reflective/glass mat insulation running along the inside of the frame rail/ tank. Every bit helps. I'm actually cold on the bike now, when the weather's cold that is.
