Ok I have an 05 xb12r so I ordered primary sprocket and chain from harley dealership for an xb9r we got it apart and front sprocket won't fit. Piece it slides on is too big. So I got to thinking that motor has been rebuilt by hal's (previous owner) so I found receipts he gave me and there is a part number 23999-08 for crank and rods, is it possible this is the reason it won't fit or did I order wrong? So frustrating.. Any help would be great!!! Anyone need a sprocket??

The 08+ crankshaft is larger, so if that is what your part number corresponds to, that will explain it. You probably need this: http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/A17192.html

Yep, that's the improved 08-10 crank assembly. You have a very nicely upgraded 05 engine now.

I'm preparing to rebuild my toasted 07 Uly engine (see thread here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/617384.html?1300876089), and Erik Buell Racing says the newer crank is well worth the trouble.

Thanks guys!! I guess that kinda takes the sting out of this set back. So I will need to order the 08 xb9r sprocket to continue on my regearing mod? So will the 05 xb9r chain that I bought work on it or do I need a new one of those too?

It's my understanding that the gearing is the same with the only difference being the crankshaft diameter. So, I'd expect the chain to be the same. But, you can always call American Sport Bike and verify.

Slodog- Do the two sprocket assemblies look identical except for the inner hole/splines (and number of teeth on the sprocket)? Several of us are wondering if the 08-up sprocket and rotor work with the earlier stators, or if something else has to be changed.

Hughlysses, I'm not sure if I have the right parts to answer your question. I believe I have an 08 stator, rotor, and the 38 tooth sprocket and I have an 05 34 tooth sprocket. I do know the 08 rotor bolted up to the 05 sprocket. The two sprockets look identical besides the center hole size. If there's anything I can try that would help answer this any better let me know, I'd be glad to.

Slodog- thanks for checking. I forgot that the 05 had a single phase stator which is probably the same as the 08-up stator anyway.

I'm trying to figure if the 08-up rotor will work with the 06-07 3-phase stator which is on my bike. If not it's hopefully possible to install the 06/07 rotor on the 08-up sprocket.
