I just picked up an HJC IS-MAX Modular bluetooth ready for $180 shipped from motorcycle-superstore. Not sure if they are a sponser but got it in 3 days. Order one size bigger than you think, they run REAL tight. I am 23 1/2" head and needed XL. Unfortunately I think the Chatterbox is only bluetooth for it, and haven't heard good news about new system XBih-2. Get a little wind noise over 80, unless i duck down. Haven't had any problems with visor or lock, yet... only had it a week Good Luck. Just stay away from HEADCASE, they are real cheap. cracked mine while trying to pop out liner to wash, never even got to wear it. | ||

Scorpion is decent. Their replacement mirrored shields are shit. Complete shit. Had two replaced on warranty and the third is still peeling. Shit. Totally: The Variant is great. Ridiculously light, comfortable, and the wind noise is shockingly low below 90-100. Get it in Rubatone. . . you won't regret it. One of the cool things about the Rubatone finish is that you can write on it with chalk and just wash it off with water afterwords. I like to change my artwork up =) Now if you crack 90-100 mph, be prepared to have some serious lift and a sore neck the next couple of days =) (Message edited by noone1569 on March 17, 2011) | ||

I have two helmets right now. Icon Domain Decay which is ok, seems a bit loose on my head even though it's my size, but amazing graphics for the prize. The inside padding of the helmet usually blocks my vision looking up, but this only happens on the racetrack. I love my Joe Rocket Villain helmet, fits great and great price and graphics. Had an HJC CL-SP before, but it got worn out in a few years and the removable pads did not click in their holes at the end. I usually buy Joe Rocket stuff since they are always well thought out products. I'm not rich enough to afford an Arai helmet, but I heard they are the best, for the price of three other brands they better be. Make sure when you clean your visor after every ride because of mosquitoes, do not use paper towel, it will scratch it up in no time. Use water and cloth. I had no idea why my visor got scratched up quickly before, until someone pointed this out to me. | ||

One of the cool things about the Rubatone finish is that you can write on it with chalk and just wash it off with water afterwords. Is the Rubatone a flat colored, kinda rubberized texture? Just curious. I have read about it, but never seen one in person. I like the chalk idea. Sweet! I have a carbon fiber RKT-101 Joe Rocket that is new for this year. Lightest I have ever owned. I have yet to take it out for a ride though. | ||

Noone1569 I've been wanting that helmet since i first saw it!!! its pretty pricey, and I dont really need a new helmet yet. It WILL be the next one i purchase however, I'm glad to hear you like it so much! i have a feeling that one will have to be purchased after boot camp! | ||

I bought a Joe Rocket RKT-101 in red carbon color. It is extremely light and has better ventilation than any other helmet I have ever owned. It is ideal for warm weather because of that. Another thing I like is it is not as prone to buffeting at speed compared to my older HJC CL-15 helmet...but the cool thing is that since they are both made by HJC, the shields interchange (I was told they won't, but they do).....even though they are both made by HJC, the shape is different...the CL-15 is more for "round headed" people....while the JR better fits my "oval" head shape. One more note on the Joe Rocket...I wear glasses and the helmet has enough clearance in the temples so the glasses do not shake around...also, the open airy interior lets a lot of sound in...ear plugs are mandatory.. | ||

The HJC CL16 is a bargain. Very quiet for a cheapy helmet and has a washable liner. It makes a great touring helmet but is lousy on sportbikes because of poor vertical visibility, which is why I spent the money and got a Shoei RF1100. | ||

Alliance SSR... that's my .5 cents. I've tried on the Variant and it was pretty good, too. I like the designs of other helmets but they didn't seem to fit quite right. | ||

I do like the removable liner, and its a pretty comfy helmet. I have a problem with my visor though. The plastic gears that allows it to open and close are messed up, or something is wierd about them. because it wont close and open like it did before, you really have to force it! Its not technicaly broken (yet), but it is really annoying! Like i said before, i'm saving for the variant! | ||

Save your money and buy a good helmet. Donate some blood or something if you have to. Don't go with the cheap (inexpensive) deal. You usually get what you pay for. | ||

 I have an addiction, but I usually wait until CycleGear puts them on sale. The most I have paid for a helmet was 200.00. It was the Shark Evoline, reg priced at 429.99, but it was returned without the box, with warranty paperwork still attached and not a scratch. If you can wait a while, look around, deals are out there, just may not be right at this day! | ||

I have a Scorpion exo700, nice and pretty comfortable for my long oval head. It does seem a bit short top to bottom (not a problem for most folks). I've also got a Zox Genesis flip front, it's my go to helmet. As quiet and more comfortable than my Nolan flip front was. I've got the narrow (side to side) and long (front to back) head shape that makes few helmets really comfy. Intend to purchase one of the Schuberth C3's with the tax return. Test rode one; quiet, comfy and really expensive. I'd happily recommend either the Zox or Sorpion. Good helmets at great prices (<$100 for the exo and <$150 for the Zox). Price doesn't always indicate performance. In one of the recent comparos I saw online... one of the sub $100 helmets bested the rest in crash testing (some sort of snell or dot drop test). Plus a good fitting helmet will work like it's supposed to and you'll wear it. I always wear a helmet, a full face, usually the flip front, I know I'd be dead or paraplegic nowdays as I managed to destroy an open face Arai way back in the seventies with an off-road, over the bars, "superman" into a boulder at about 45. I wear now, no matter what. | ||

The look of the helmet is nice to consider, but the performance should be the most important. I want a helmet a racer would wear. I used the UK's Sharp website to check the ratings and then I looked for the most reasonable 5 star helmet I could find. http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/testhelmetlist I ended up getting an AGV S4,( 5 star helmet ), really light. Bought from AGV online for half the MSRP because it was a discontinued model. If you search well you can find a real deal on a good helmet by finding either a discontinued model or sometimes just the paint scheme is discontinued and the price has been reduced |
