I'm looking to upgrade both tail and headlights for my '04 XB12s lightning, but was looking for a good headlight option? I'm almost positive on going with xblights for the tail, but am looking for advice on the front end. The goal being brighter, whiter, more visible without compromising the original look of the bike. Any direction is much appreciated! Richard | ||

Thanks Froggy! It says on their website these bulbs aren't good for small housing due to the heat. Will these work in the original housing without any heat damage? | ||

The Lightning head lamps are not small housings, and it only applies to the 55w models anyway. Also, I've seen the stock bulbs cause heat damage to the reflectors, the HID will be no worse. | ||

Thats it, plug it in and go. Installation is easy, I've done a few of their kits on various bikes and cars. You will need to stuff the ballasts behind the flyscreen, and cut a small hole in the back of the rubber boot behind the bulb to feed the extra wiring. It will be a little confusing at first, but once you spend a few minutes looking at everything it makes sense. The kit I linked is for two bulbs, one for your high and one low. If you only desire to do lowbeam, check their site they have the same kit available with one bulb. | ||

I'll leave it at I've never been pulled over for it. It surely ain't DOT legal, but assuming you adjust your headlamp correctly you shouldn't have a problem with pissing off oncoming traffic. | ||

Will these lights on the link work for my 2008 Firebolt too? I like the whiter light, so 4500K or 5000K would be the choice right? | ||

It will work, just pick H3 bulbs instead. 4500K will give a white color, it is the same color temperature as the OEM HID kits on cars. 6000 will give a slight blue tint, 8000 even more blue, 10000 is really blue, above that it turns purple. Below 4500 it starts to get yellow which is perfect for fog lights, keep going lower for orange then red. | ||

Froggy, I was reading back through the thread and noticed you said "the best you can do without changing the assembly", i'm curious about other options. What would you recommend if the housing was changed out? | ||

The sky is the limit if you are willing to swap it, but you will have additional costs, need to fabricate mounting brackets, potentially different wiring, and other unknowns like how good the light output really is. Would it be possible to wire both of those lights up to be on all the time? Then switch them both from low to high? It looks like the "HID Harness" they sell might allow it. | ||

You would need dual filament bulbs and hi/low HIDs are hella expensive. | ||

You can do that even with the stock headlights. It is just a matter of swapping the wires around on the headlight connector. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/599673.html Don't bother with the HID harness, it is not made for motorcycles. |
