i have a 09xb9sx and will be driving about 10 hours with it in a covered trailer. i have 2x6 braces on the floor to keep wheels fro sliding left or right. i just need to know the best way to strap it down from the handle bar area and rear tire. where to run the straps | ||

tie it down around the lower triple tree, dont use the bars. | ||

Usually a strap over the rear wheel to keep it from bouncing is a good idea. | ||

when strapping down the front end does it cause damage to the fork seals? The bike made the trip fine, just wondering if the seals could be damaged. | ||

it can happen. But typically only in instances when you crank the front end down to bottoming out when you strap it down. You'll find out pretty quick if their messed up. But I'm guessing you're cool. (Message edited by 1BigEasy on March 14, 2011) | ||

I use the tiedowns in front just to stabilize the bike and the real work of securing the bike to the rail is by a strap wrapped around the wheel and the rail at 4 o'clock, viewed from the right. | ||

I have hauled my xb12 on an open trailer about a dozen times and haven't had any fork seal issues. I attach the straps to the bars and only crank it down until the forks begin to compress. I also attach a tie-down to each passenger peg mount. Its scary having the bike on a trailer the first couple times but as long as the tension is equal on both sides of the front you won't have any issues. | ||

Thanks guys. the bike made it there fine. i strapped the front with 2 straps from the lower triple tree, one to each side, and one fat strap over the rear wheel. plus i had the 2x6's screwed to the floor to caulk the tires. you are right, i hauled lots of dirt bikes and 4 wheelers, but when its a almost new buell it was a little nerve racking. but thats what insurance is for | ||

I use a canyon dancer, it goes across the bars and pulls against the opposite bar. They usually cost like $25 and work like a charm. And definitely strap the rear tire. |
