Hello everyone! Just a quick intro here. I have used the site as a visitor for a couple years now but decided to sign up for real and get more detailed information. I use a performance Subaru forum on a daily basis (my other passion)so I will do more reading and try not to be too much of a newbie! I own an 05 XB12 with full carbon fiber and I love it!!! I've done fluid changes and simple maintenance so I hope to learn more as time goes on.

Welcome. It looks like you have a handle on the maintenance part. My girl and I have been contemplating a Subaru for the past year. We both like the STI hatchback, but she is leaning toward a red sedan with gold wheels. We'll have to get rid of one of our Jeeps before then. Too many hobbies.

I know what you mean, I have a hobby addiction to : ) I can't say enough good things about my Subaru, I have an 07 WRX that is modded to STi h/p now and its sooo much fun to drive, especially here in Colorado. I think you would have a blast in one. Back to the Buell though, now that the weather is getting better I need to do some 'tuning up' on it so I'm ready for summer. I have some tech questions but over the next few weeks I'll search before I post up a new question. I grew up around 2-stroke dirt bikes so my knowledge of these V-twins is minimal...I just really want to keep her running good with no major repairs caused by lack of knowledge.

Yeah thats what it is...great forum, our local forum in Colorado for Subaru's and Mitsu's is Awdpirates.net, I'm on that one a lot too!

I absolutely love the "search" function on that site, wish they had it here! No offense but found the Mitsu crowd to suck, one of the reasons I've owned like 6 Subys is because of the fellow owners. Buellers are the closest bike crowd I've come across.

jesset the easy way to put pictures on here would be to use Photobucket to upload your picture then copy the IMG code and paste it in a post.

Thanks for the help! I will try it later since I'm at work. Nice bike, love that color : )

Hey anybody have suggestions for tank bags that work well with the XB's? The Buell ones are a little out of my price range, just wondering if any cheaper types work.I know the magnet ones won't work but is it a pain to use the strap type with the air filter and other misc. engine items under the airbox covers???

I used photobucket myself.
Straps seem to be the most popular style(usually some in the for sale section) although I did see a post by a guy that used a magnetic bag, he put more magnets underneath his airbox lid and they held together through the plastic.

Thanks Brumbear!!! Augustus, yeah I actually considered that with the magnets. I think with the thin cover if you epoxied some magnets in the right spot underneath then a bag could possibly stay...Wonder up to what speed though???

Tank bags are very nice but you are only STARTING an experiment with a magnetic type.

Just go with a tied-on type with straps so you'll NEVER have to worry.

...and also, welcome to this craziness!

Sounds good, thanks for the advice. I did find a company from Canada called Motopak that has cheaper tank bags. They look nice for the price. I'd love the magnet type but your probably right, it could be hectic trying to make that work.

Thanks, I have become a huge fan of these cars, especially for the reliability and the cost of ownership. So on the Buell side of things, I hit 10k miles today, felt great to get out for a bit. First ride of the year : )

Some things I am looking into, first I have never adjusted the suspension even though I've never felt issues with it. Is this easy for the common home mechanic? Looking over my very plain Buell manual (I need the actual service manual) and the scheduled maintenance is showing a few things I need some insight/help with. For 10k miles its showing replacement of spark plugs, front fork oil, and it looks like they recommend changing the brake fluid every two years. I'm on a tight budget right now (first baby due in May) so any advice on these items is much appreciated. Are the plugs easy to do? I suck at break fluid changes and I probably would not tackle the fork oil. Also I need to know the group years that my 2005 Lightning XB12 fits in with, for example the 05's are compatible with xx-xx year of the XB 12's??? Thanks everyone in advance : )

Love the WRX, always liked the pig nose, is that crystal grey? Does your XB have carbon tank and fender? Suspension is real easy, worst part is suspeneding the bike if you want it exact. Search "higbee suspension", Buell racer that has spot on suspension settings. Most maintenance is easy, Im sure there are Buellers out there that will lend a hand if needed. '05-'07 Lightenings are the same. '08-'10 have minor mechanical difefrences.

Augustus, thanks for the help! The car is Urban Grey Metallic, I'll throw another pic on tonight since you can't really see the whole car. The XB is all CF, bought it that way, everything is either factory Buell or Amer. Sport Bike carbon. I'm getting spring fever so I look forward to giving the bike some TLC...My main concern is the little things like plugs that will keep things running good.

Good for you, the American Sport Bike c/f is the real deal, not that carbon over fiberglass junk.
I had gold Rotas on my car but don't think I have a pic of it and the XB in matching trim
