anyone know when im really supposed to change my firebolt, 2009 XB12R for the second time? I did the initial one at 1000 miles and used synthetic from Harley. I am currently approaching 3600 miles.

Do it now, I do all of mine (both engine & gearbox)at 3000 or before with Amsoil. I know it's viewed as wasting money by most but it gives me peace o' mind and all my stuff works great.

I do both every time, but every person on this board will tell you something different. That is good in a way as you will know that just about anything will work just fine.

Skinstains, so just to get this correct, every 3 to 5 thousand miles i should change everything, yes?

I'm a firm believer in every 5000 miles. Its easy for me to keep track of.

Every 10,000 miles whether I need it or not.

Just kidding. I usually change the oil around 4500 or so. I don't stick to a round number, but I don't lose track of where I'm at either.
I always keep one of my trip meters tracking the last oil change, and the other tracking the last fill-up.

Sketchy, I can't tell you what to do but I can tell you that if you do as I do your bike will be happy for a long long time. I change both the engine oil and gearbox oil every 3000 miles. Because I run Amsoil 100% synthetic I don't worry if I'm on a trip or something and the mileage will be more that 3000 before I get home to change it as the particular oil I use DOUBLES the manufacturers change/drain intervals. Take a few minutes to read the whole description in this link and you will probably be buying Amsoil. I am in no way connected to Amsoil besides being a purchaser/user and stand to gain nothing by you using or not using it.

At least once a year if you don't put 3500 to 5000 on it. Going to try a Seafoam clean out this spring on mine and see what happens, either I lose a lifter that seems to be clicking or it gets better so not much to lose.
