I know I know....This has been brought up time and time again but I didn't pay much attention because I wasn't in need of rubber yet.So who's running what how sticky,how long did they last and where's the deals.I may get 500 miles out of my rear tire yet but I'm not one to use a tire until its treadless.So I'll mast likely replace both. | ||

I loved my Diablo Corsas from Pirelli, just a tad too short a lifespan for me, did the final calculations and came out with just over 3500 miles on the rear. Course I had lots of tread towards the outside, it was the center section that was worn out from all the runs down the I-8. I need to find a stretch that has LOTS more twisties in it for that ride. I just put on the M-Force radial from Continental. Initial thought is a step up from the Dunlops but a step down or two from the Pirelli's, but take into account this is a Sporttouring tire ment to get 7500+ miles out of a rear. My diablo front BTW looks barely scuffed and I kept it as a spare. It still has 7/32nds all the way around the profile. | ||

If you buy pirelli dragon supercorsas,(The best tyre in the world in my opinion),in sc2 or sc3 compound,they will last a little longer than the supersticky sc1's.Look on e-bay,never more than $150 a set for take offs,and they will STICK! | ||

Anyone on this board try the Michelin Pilot Sports yet? Sound like a good tire, and I know they make quality compounds...I've used them on my M3 for 4 years and they've always been consistent. Quality is my main concern.. | ||

i have a metzeler z6 on back of mine. works real well in the rain.only 2800 miles on it yet, dont know how long they last, but i will have one in stock for when i wear this one out. | ||

Call me boring...I'm runnin' the Dunlop 208's. I will say this though, they were hooked up real good all weekend. Never once made me feel anything less than totally planted.  YMMV Timbo | ||

My personal observations- Got rid of the dunlop 207 front, replaced with soft bridgestone 012. Awesome could not believe the difference. A world better than the dunlop. (incidentally did a dealer demo track day recently all their bikes had stock tyres very poor handling) Replaced the rear with a BT020 bridgestone dual compound hard in centre with soft shoulders. Good mileage and grips well enough for me in the twisties. So liked the Bridgestones thought i would check out the others and see if anything is better. Replaced front with pilot sport a few days ago absolutely hate it, straight line stability is shocking! (it is good in the corners though)maybe I need the steering damper I never thought I needed. The tread pattern criss crosses over the centreline and this causes the bars to twitch left and right in a straight line. I am hoping it well settle as the kilometres add up. Have done about 500klms so far and maybe it is slightly better or i am more used to it now. This weekend i will cover about 1,200klms pretty much in a straight line so it will flatten the front a bit, i hope this will help. I noticed that the pilot has a rounder shape than many of the others(taller in the centre of the tyre. The front bridgestone has a separation line straight down the centre of the tread, this would appear to be good for straight line stability. I will most likely go back to the bridgestone if my confidence in the pilot does not improve. I use the bike every day for all my transport needs and fun needs, the type of riding i do is a mix of suburbia, highway, fast secondary roads and tight twisty mountains. Get about 13-14K out of a rear bridgestone and about 8K out of a front. I do squeeze every last bit of use out of them where some people might replace them 1,500 to 2,000klms earlier. I apologise for metric but i am too tired tonight to convert for you. I am by no means an authority and these are my personal observations. If anyone has anything to add or disagrees with me please speak up, we can all learn from each others experiences. | ||

I've had three sets of Pilot Sports on my 9R. I absolutely love them. I'm way more confident on them compared to the stockers. They performed very well on the track, with exceptional warm up time, grip, and wear. I haven't noticed any of the above stated "twitching" of the bars in straight line action. I haven't tried the Pirelli's or Sportec M1's so I can't relay anything on those. Mebbe I'll try one of those next. If you ask me though, you can't go wrong with the Pilot Sports. This is kinda like an oil thread though, ain't it?  | ||

my boy rides a beefed up zx9r he used to race in germany and ALL hell use is pilot sports he swears by them and ive seen him drag his knee in corners that no one even wants to ride through cuz of so much dirt | ||

Many people, including myself, took advantage of the Pirelli "Buy a Rear Tire get a Front Tire for Free" deal. The deal was for the Diablo "standard" and not the Corsa (although I found out later that some tire dealers were doing the same deal for Diablo Corsa's). I'm guessing that when people talk about liking the Diablo's for street riding, they mean the standard tire not the Corsa. But I have heard some people saying good things about the Corsa's for the track. The most popular tire for the XB's seems to be the Sportec M-1. And for good reason because of excellent handling, good wet and dry grip, decent mileage, and a good price. Much better than the stock Dunlop tires. The M-1 is essentially the same tire as the Diablo "standard" except for the tread pattern, so you can't really go wrong with the M-1 or the Diablo. I'm on M-1's right now with the Diablo's available to replace them when they wear out. Mike. | ||

The short answer is I got the Diablo's because of the free front tire deal. I saw a tire test done by a magazine over in the UK which rated the Diablo's at the top with M1's close behind. Also, a couple guys (Yam R6 bikes) I have ridden with really liked the M1's and raved about the great grip and turn-in (compared to Dunlops). So I ordered a set before my stock tires wore out. In the meantime, the Diablo deal caught my eye and I ordered a set of those as well. When it came time to change tires, I just picked the M1's to put on first. I had both tires off the bike side by side and they are identical in shape/profile and are both made in Germany. I really think the tread design is the only difference. As soon as the M1's wear out, I will see if Diablo's feel any different. I am by no means a tire expert, but the M1's do make me feel much more comfortable and confident in the corners. I just feel like I can make the bike do more than I could with Dunlops. Mike. | ||

I haven't called the companies but I do believe and have heard from many sources that the Diablo and Sportec M1 are the same carcas w/ a different tread pattern. | ||

Metzeler owns Pirelly (or is it the other way around), and are known for making basically identical tires for each "company" and selling them under different names. Henrik | ||

It's possible that they could use slightly different rubber compounds for the two brands of tires. You would have to talk to the manufacturer's to find that out though. I don't know if they would divulge that kind of information. Mike. | ||
