I'm in the process of putting new handlebars on my 12R, and with the stock throttle tube/switch housing, the throttle cables exit the housing pointing at the right side fork leg.

Is there a similar throttle tube/switch housing that puts the exit of the throttle cables in a different spot? Are our controls (switch housings) a standard item between manufacturers? They look very similar to the rest of the sportbike market.

Yes, but with the handlebars I'm using, I don't have the height you have with those bars. I understand which way they have to point, but mine need to exit, rotated 180 degrees around the bar, facing the same direction. With the adjusters on there, the flexible part of the cable is right next to the right fork tube. It would be too sharp of a bent to get it to go around the forks. Therefore, I think I need to get the exit of the cables on the top/front of the bar so it can clear the fork tube and triple tree.

Some Kawasaki's have the cable's leading out in the opposite spot. My Z1000 is 180 degrees off of my Lightning. the internal throttle cable connections are the same diameters. The only problem I see would be the electrical half of the whole deal. Just a thought

Can't you just rotate the switchgear on the bar ? Just file down the indexing bosses and put a lap or two of tape on the bar where the bosses were and it won't rotate when you twist the throttle.

If I rotate the switchgear, it's going to hit the airbox at full lock. It seems the part of the switchgear that is the thinnest is where the switches are. I want it to look right too. I intend on re-making the risers another 1/4 inch higher. It won't help with the cable positioning though.
I like the idea of the Z1000 unit. Thats what I'm looking for. An aftermarket kill/start switch unit is $30 or so. Anybody have a reference guide to throttle cables with descriptions of the ends?
That raises another question. Are the throttle body ends on the XB a standard attachment where the sheathing ends? I know the throttle side is like none other. If I change that, can I use a standard cable from another make/model? It would be nice to do this without custom cables; but that may not be in the cards.
Heres to unnecessary (but fun) customization!

I would recommend making the risers higher first. I put the same exact bars on my Lightning and went with a total 2" including the Precision risers. With the risers I made the cables run between the two bolts then over the steering stem.

I'm going to mock it up again, and see if I can put the bars high enough make room for the cables. My risers only have about 1.5 inches of rise in them. I'll find out tomorrow. See if I can pull this off without changing too much stuff.

I'm going to try a new set of Renthals tomorrow. I got a gift card from my mom for the local dirt shop. I'll put them on and see what happens. I'll re-make the risers to be lower, and get the height out of the bars. This may open it up enough to use the stock switch housing.

They have a set of fat bars with a black wrinkle coat on them for clearance pricing..........

It's going to be one or the other. I'll chime in tomorrow. Either way, I'm going to remake the risers.....

I wound up picking up a set of Pro Taper carmichael hi. Now to make the new risers a little lower. Whole new shape. These will have clearance for the throttle cables. Right now they are 32" wide with 9.5 in. of grip/lever area on each side. About 2.5-3 inches of rise. I may cut an inch off each end. We'll see. Now, I may leave them kinda wide and get rid of the Bolt mirrors, and get some good bar-end mirrors. I need to stop thinking about this.......
