My question is should i header wrap or not. Just was wondering some of the pro's and con's of header wrap. My header pipe is in good shape just tired of looking at the gold color after i clean it and it heats up. Let me know your thoughts!

It's up to you. I have seen wrap jobs I like, and ones I don't. I stick with the gold color on the headers. It's the only thing on the bike with that finish. Your choice. A well done wrap job looks sweet.
I also have a dent on my header that I refuse to replace.........

The titanium wrap would look good on the '03 bike. Or you could polish the headers.

Header wrap was meant to be used on race cars under the hood,it absorbs moisture and holds it against your pipes---will cause corrosion on even the stainless. And it is affected by UV and will deteriorate, making replacement a regular thing.

I disagree with Sloppy. I like the look of wrapped headers. I would've ceramic coated mine, but I lowsided the bike scraping the headers. The wrap covers the scrape quite nicely. I used a kit from DEI with black sealer so they match the bike nicely.

Why would you ask for advice from others...about what "you" need to do to your bike...it's "your" bike..!

My last four bikes have had wrapped headers.

BUT...those have all been "my" bikes.

How about a set of neon lights under the fenders too? ; )

But hey, to each their own.

Ceramic coat then wrap. No worries. I dig the way it looks and I REALLY like not getting burned and having riding gear melting if I too casually throw it over the seat.

I also like to get my pipe moist every now and then. Hasn't fallen apart yet.

Fireguy10,
Wrap them up and don't look back. If your only gripe is the appearance then it will be an easy fix. The wrap can be found in different colors also. You don't even have to take them off. Just wrap them as far and best as you can. Your profile says you live way way up North so if you do ride in the weather when its wet a lot I would NOT wrap them though. I would have them coated. I live down South and I try to NEVER ride in the rain so I get a little more life from my wraps. I agree that if you get them wet too often your header will probably rust faster underneath.

To deter the corrosion process, make sure to keep the bike running until all steam ceases to emanate from your exhaust, that is what I do when I wash my old man's bike

Well this is proof that opinions are like a....

Anyway, there's 2 reasons to wrap: 1) heat, 2) looks

As far as both of those go, my opinion is that ceramic coating does a better job of BOTH. And it's not as expensive as people think either- find a local shop and they'll do your header fro around $80.

My wife's XB9S had it's header wrapped when I bought the bike. The previous owner parked outside every night, and put a cover over it. He used the wrap so that the cover did not melt on the header. I shoot it with a quick coat of hi temp flat black about once/year to keep it looking good (it needs to be sprayed again in this photo):

No corrosion issues- I don't know how you could get that much moisture that won't burn off with our high heat exhausts?

It does a good job of keeping heat off of the rider, and is typically pretty cool to the touch. But again, I much prefer the looks of the ceramic coatings, and they do a great job of keeping heat off of the rider. I plan to ceramic coat the header on my Uly.

Mine are Ceramic Coated and I love the look and I did feel a little improvement in power by seat of the pants. They may have just been my perception though. You can see a pic in my profile.

Fireguy10,
I wonder if you'd asked about ceramic coating would you have gotten a bunch of answers about wrapping the headers like your original question inquires?
