Has anyone had any luck painting there header pipe? I really don't want the wrap or get them coated. I cleaned them but i still would like something different. I have seen high temp paint like 2k. I was wondering if that would work.

I would take bets that it would not last more than 15 minutes. Too much heat.

Another option is polishing the pipes. Our pipes are stainless and look great polished.

"Our" pipes? Who is speedfreaks101? And polishing is the best way to go if you don't want to get coating done.

That'll work ok.
The finish will get really dull at the exhaust end.
Looks ok, but not near as good or long lasting as jet coating.
The silver jet coating will get dull at the exhaust end as well, but not near as bad or as soon.
Polishing looks like new, and with regular maintenance looks new all the time.

I'm not so sure. I used the silver stuff on the Force pipe on my X1. It lasted about 1 week until it looked like crap. After that first week if you touched the pipe ever the stuff just rubbed right off in a fine powder.

I think the bottom line is that our pipe just get too hot and if you're going to do anything to them you should just do it right.

Jet hot type coatings are surprisingly cheap. Find a local shop to do it- it will cost you less than $100.

i have wrapped, wire-brished and 'greenied' and lastly VHT'd a set on my 9.
next up will be powder caoting.

the VHT worked okay, until i rode it the rain. it was starting to pop and chip off, but the rain really made things worse. it's mostly still VHT silver, but the leading faces of the pipes is shit brown. -sigh-

hopefully jethot will last more than a year.

A good high quality ceramic coat is a permanent finish as long as you don't scratch it off...if the finish gets dull, you simply burnish it with xtra fine steel wool.

Al at American Sport Bike has exchange headers if you don't want to wait for the local coater to do the job.

I just keep mine buffed up....not polished...just buffed up some...if I ever have reason to rotate my engine and plan on having the bike down for a while, I will get the ceramic coat on the whole exhaust system.

For those of you that used the VHT stuff.
Did you go through the proper curing process?

"Our" pipes? Who is speedfreaks101?

Yes our pipes. Fireguy10 owns a Buell, I own a Buell along with quite a few others that participate in the forum. That makes it "ours".
Now for the mystery man of Speedfreaks101 he is an amatuer gynecologist with a bad drinking problem, high blood pressure and a raging hardon. Why, you want to help?

Wait. Speedfeak I ment my inquiry as a joke. When I read your comment, I thought you were an employee of buell. Wasn't being a dick.(which I am well known for. Ask bearracing.)

And nillaice, did only the header chip and peel away? Or did the d&d do the same?

The black satin sounds interesting from new image coatings.

the D&D was the first to go bad. it rusted under the paint. i am only guessing that it was porous and let moisture seep in.

the pipes kinda burnt it off. the front edges are brownish/tan. there are some chips in it. im guessing from pebbles, etc

see?

and the pipes have continued to brown since this

I had Jet-Hot coat the headers(inside & out) and the D&D(outside only). Still holding up, but salted roads aren't much of a problem in Houston:

YMMV,

Had Pete at Grand Stand Designs(a sponsor) do my Uly pipe a few years ago, The header still looks great but the muffler is rusting again as it was heavily before

Also had him do the CR in Chrome X(spelling?) earlier in the year that still looking fantastic!
