Ok, so I have a problem on both my Buells. On both my 12's it feels like 4th gear is jumpin out. This happens right close to redline.
Is this my tranny or something else? Primary to sloppy? I need to come up with a plan before next season.
Thanks

Primary adjust and clutch adjust should fix it. New primary oil might help too.

How many miles since they were last adjusted?

Might it be the motor going on the rev limiter??

It's not the rev limiter, as it happens throughout 4th, it feels like it just kinda jumps. Tighten the primary a bit? I'm not sure what the clutch would have do do with it, as its not slipping, but I'm still relatively new to the whole primary thing.
Well my main race bike had about 3 or 4 days on the track, fresh oil and checked th tension but did not adjust. It did only start on the last day on the track, so maybe its the tension?

Well that's what I'm wondering, if I got to tear it down id like to do it now, not during the season.

Probably no way to tell for certain unless it comes apart. If it isn't the clutch, then something inside is causing it to come out of gear. Primary chain runs the clutch so it is less likely to be the problem.

Could be a worn bearing/bushing, missing teeth, bent shift fork, or a couple other things that will need to be checked. I'm afraid there is really nothing external that would affect just fourth gear.

If you pull it apart, send the complete transmission out and have it magnafluxed and back-cut...the back cut will make it shift better and missed gears will be a thing of the past...

Thanks for all the help guys. I really don't want to, but I think I will tear down the race bike. Heck it gives me a good excuse to freshen it up, maybe tweak the head and put in some pistons.
