Submitted for your approval:

Observe a stock Blast! primary case:

Blast! Case, note nub under clutch cable

Now look in the P3 Service manual, page 6-13:

Blast! threaded hole under clutch cable

Notice the threaded hole near where the clutch cable goes into the case. In the current Blast! this would serve no useful purpose, and it is in fact not there/covered on the production Blast!. What would that be for?

DonnerBlast!

Well, if you look at the picture on page 34 of the Project Blast in the last Battle 2Win, look where that shifting mechanism is installed. More than that, look at the style and quality of the shifter mechanism itelf. Looks like a Buell part to me. That project bike was at the Donner Ranch last year. Do anybody here know anything else about it?

Grizz,
I knew it wasn't the new Buell. My point was that if Buell did make such a bike I would by it immediately.

Just out of curiousity. . . .

What, I'd like to see a list of say 5 items, are the attributes. . . in order of import. . . that you guys consider essential for a "new Buell" to be a commerical sucess.

Remember, this is not "pie in the sky" WSB stuff, but COMMERICAL. Ducati sales are up to record levels. 27 bikes in the Manhattan Ducati store are all marked Sold or Hold. The market has never been better and Buell NEEDS numbers after sales dropping as a result of recalls.

From a stategic business model. . tell me, what's it have to have to part you and your money?

Let me take a shot at mine. . .

1.) SUPPORT .....dealer parts/service and factory warranty. Things are better, but there is much, yet to be done. The resources exist, employ them.

2.) RELIABILITY .....I'd like this bike to have been tested like the BLAST. I've been a test rider, now I am a customer again.

3.) ROMANCE .....It it doesn't turns heads and make LA driver's ask "hey, is that a BMW?"...well, it's just not a Buell. It's gotta talk to my soul.

4.) BUTT KICKING PERFORMANCE .....Don't get me wrong, I have little interest in 14,000 RPM (I can do that with the CB-1) or 330 RWHP (The story young Nallin relayed was enough to scare me), but I want to roll the throttle on and get that roller-coaster seat-of-the-pants sensation from 60-100. Top end over 130 MPH is pretty much wasted space on me.

5.) SOMETHING TRICK .....I think I know what it's gonna be, knowing Erik, but be it a single underslung rear shock, interesting frame, 2300mm front brake, 17 valve diesel, it has to have something quite weird, purposeful, and Buell-like that screams "we don't care what you think, this WORKS"

Approximate value of this message = $0.02

Court,
here's my priorities:

1. Reliability
2. dealer support(but that might not be so important if it was reliable)
3. about 115-125 rear wheel HP
4. Keep that V-twin sound
5. Keep price under $10,000

1. I just want to hit the button and go.(ask Jose)

2. Six gears

3. 100 RWHP on a bad day

4. Looks-If it were painted slime green I don't want it to look like a ZX-9

There is always more than one way to skin a cat. If you can't make gobs of horsepower out of the motor, why can't you strip the bike of excess weight? I don't know how accurate the 10 lbs. to 1 hp factor is, but my guess is that you will see that approach before you see a start-of-the-art liquid motor slug from a East Troy creation.
"The Motor Company" doesn't appear to be capable of building metric rocket motors, nor should they. They have their unique niche in the market, so why should they follow the mainstream. H-D marketing will tell you that they turn left when the competition turns right, and that’s what they attribute their success too. I don't know anybody that rides a Buell that wants it to look just like everybody else’s bike.
However, it would be fun to smoke some gixers down the highway, and eat them alive through the twisties, all while emitting a loud throaty rumble.....

Just one opinion.

Reliability....

Horsepower (100 rhp is entirely reasonable, IMO)

That covers it. (though I am still waiting for a Thunderstormed S1 Lightning with a nice aluminum breadbox tank...give me a production "Buell't for Speed" and throw a kick starter on it. All bikes should have a kickstarter.)
