M1-103 is the Mobil 1 Filter...Auto Zone is the only one in my area that has it...They also were the only ones who had the Mobil 1 Synthetic V Twin oil as well.. |

i would strongly discourage the use of any FRAM branded oil filters on any vehicle that you care about. the oem part is inexpensive, easy to find, and works well. |

FRAM makes different grades of filters. Their basic model of oil filter is... well... a basic low end filter. Their synthetic medium filters are rated well. Our household automobiles have logged well over 300,000 miles and 28 years between them; neither use oil or have suffered loss of compression or power. Both have used FRAM filters for pretty much their entire lives. I now use the better grade filters.

Oil filters eh? for cars, i know Napa Gold filters are about the best out there. i had a job in High School where i did a LOT of oil changes, and the oil coming out of a car with one of those was always cleaner than both the napa silver, or any other type. the Napa gold is a Wix filter, and is the best i have ever seen. (cut one apart and compare to your brand, the same number you use on your vehicle) its a semi expensive thing to do, but what you learn should be priceless. |

OEM Suzuki GSXR filters used to cost me $AUS28 Last filter on my invoice for the Buell was only $AUS19 and I was happy. The one that gives me the shits is OEM car filter are less than $AUS10 so we are getting ripped off but just not as much as I'm used to. edited by starter on June 08, 2004 |

Just an FYI from a Walmart TLE employee...Having stocked and handled the arriving filters, the walmart Supertech Filter ST4967 IS the Fram PH4967 filter in a different color and box. Having Fram filters and Supertech filters arrive mixed up in Fram or Supertech sealed cases is generally a dead giveaway. But also when a bad filter came out of the box, it was returned to fram whether it was a Supertech or a Fram filter. |

I think that everyone is missing the point of my post I was being Sarkie. $20AUD is not much for the health of the bike. My point really was that the Buell filter was cheaper than the one for my 150cc Scooter, and the scooter filter is as big as my thumb (well almost). |

Just put on a WIX 51394 this past weekend. I had been using STP. Wix has a great reputation so I figuered I'd try them. The only thing I notice is the engine holds oil pressure (lamp off) for about 3 minutes (cold engine) after hitting the kill switch. I am attibuting it to a tight anti drainback valve. Anyone else seen this before? |

I just did my first change on my new (used) 9R. It's so easy on this thing, not a drop anywhere! Better than my last bike where it was necessary to let oil drip all over the pipes. About filters, the Buell filter is $6.95 at the HD dealer. I just went to an Autozone that has the STP and AC listed above both for $3.49. Otherwise the Mobil 103 is $11.99. So the question is, is the Mobil any better than stock? For those prices it seems the stock is the best option, if it is the best quality. The only difference I can see is the o-ring. On the Buell filter it's embedded and round, so it compresses nicely against the flat surface. The others have a square ring that feels firmer, maybe harder to get to seal? |
