I noticed the idle was sitting at jusat under 1000 after warm up. Is this normal for the Buell or should it be adjusted? The bike only has 20 miles on it.
Thanks

I would suggest that it be around 1000 at the lowest point where it bounces around. Regularly running the bike at 900-950 may not be fast enough for the oil pump and charging system to provide adequate resources.

As the bike breaks in the idle will change a bit but the book says it should be between 950 and 1050...it just seems to me with my XB9R the bike likes to idle with the tack needle kissing 1000 at the lowest fluctuation.

Oops...didn't know that.

Thanks for the correction on that...given I may be getting one if they get the fuel capacity up!

Interesting...my XB9R likes what the 12 says it should have...

Matt --

My service manual says the idle for my XB9 is 1050-1150 also...that's prolly why your bike likes it there! ; )

Musta misread that one...I just kind of skimmed over that section but have been going off of how "happy" the bike is since then...

BTW, in case you missed the section in the manual ya have to put oil and gas in it too, ya know?

; )

OK, OK, that was low. Sorry bro, couldn't resist. Hey, where is Arroyo Grande?

Not too low at least...I do put gas and oil...and I put them in the right places too!

Arroyo Grande is right next to Pismo Beach about 100 miles north of Santa Barbara along the 101. I live about 1 mile (line o' sight) from the Oceano Dunes where I ride my YZF450 from time to time...beautiful area and lots of good riding too.

Take care and ride safe eveyone.

When I purchased mine, they had the idle set around 900-1000. Reading the manual and paying attention here I quickly changed it to idle around 1050-1100. I watched it for a little while at first, during break in, but quickly changed it.

Thanks for the responses. I put 50 miles on today, idle is still a little low. This bike is unlike any other i have been on...

the idle adjuster is very easy to access. you can turn the idle knob by hand, without any tools. after you figure out where it pokes out next to the air intake scoop, you can even adjust it while sitting on the saddle. they like to idle at 1100 rpm.( HOT)
