Adjusted my clutch (12S)today per the big book and WOW!! Bike feels MUCH more solid off the line and at low end rpms...Feels like a new bike.
The gap between the ferrule and bracket was approx 3/8 inch and I made it 1/16 inch...
SHAZAMMM!

So check your clutch adjustments today.

Just got my bike back from the shop for it's 5000 mile service. Maybe that's what it is, cuz my bike is feeling awfully frisky! I was thinking it was all in my head...ya know? Kinda like when you was your car it seems to run better! Switched over to synthetics too. Can't wait for another long ride!

I definitely agree...I check mine using a small piece of metal as a spacer for the ferrule...as I adjust the cable I move the spacer...once it starts to bind up I lock it down. That way the adjustment is the same just about every time.

I check this once a month to keep things from getting too far out of wack. I know from the FatBoy I had it really made a difference with the bike being heavier and all.

I was speaking of the Clutch Cable Adjustment...adjusting the actual clutch every month should not be required unless you put in 2500 miles during each one!

I suppose not but I usually adjust both about every 1,000-1,500.

It really seems to like the attention. : )

A quarter worth of space on the clutch cable works well for me.

Just did the synthetic oil (Royal Purple 20W50) switch, primary adjustment, and clutch basket/cable adjustment...the Blast feels MUCH better now : )

I did the clutch and the cable...very nice..Daddy like..he like a lot

Henrik..The service manual says 1/16 to 1/8" from farrule to bracket..I guarantee you that a 1/4" is hampering some of your performance...Try it at half the distance you are at. I think you'll like the adjustment.

I'm guessing that the clutch was not fully disengaging?????Is this why I notice such a jump in power with the manufacturer setting???

I think Henrik meant he used a $.25 coin quarter. Not a 1/4" quarter.

A quarter is a little thicker than the metal I use but it is within the 1/16" - 1//8" range called for.

I guess you could call that a cheap fix...

What is the "ferrule" ya'll are talking about?

Is it the gap between the lever and the clutch perch that's supposed to be 1/16"?

My 9R doesn't have any feel until at 90% out, or lever at the end of travel. (the clutch doesn't grab until the lever is almost completely let out) -make sense?

Noface...The ferrule is the metal band around the cable that butts up against the lever bracket. The gap between the ferrule and the the bracket should be approx. the width a Quarter (the coin). Make sure you are pulling the cable away from the the clutch lever to determine this..

Secondly, yes, the friction zone on the clutch should be felt in the last 10% of the lever when letting out...Kinda weird that the zone is so small but you really don't even have to pull in half way to fully engage the clutch.

Yes Tim, thanks for clarifying : )

I also make sure to pre-tension the cable sleeve when I do the adjustment: I pull on the sleeve by the lever, while at the same time pulling and releasing the clutch lever a few times. That will put everything under tension similar to when you're actually using the clutch. So I adjust the cable so that with tension on the sleeve, I just have room for a Quarter (the coin) between ferule and clutch lever bracket.

oh, and Jason, thanks for the vote of confidence in my wrenching skills ... 1/4" ... hroumph ; )
