A few years ago I saw a website with a guy who drag raced a Buell XBR with a downdraft Weber Carb sticking out the airbox . Has anyone seen or heard of this conversion ? Has anyone ever tryed this ? What would be involved with this conversion , would you still need the ECM ? And I know , I know , why would anyone want to convert your Buell XB from FI to Carb ? Because the tuning is so much simpler with a carb , and the Buell closed loop/open loop system has a lot to be desired in race and hot rodding situations .

Well you would need ECM function for the ignition, unless you replaced that whole setup too. I doubt you care about guages if your serious about drag racing.

Have you looked into megasquirt? If not, its an open source engine management system, fully tunable, just requires wiring to your sensors and such, and then tuning. Its kinda a DIY community with tons of support(or was havent looked in ages). It started for cars, but they have a slimmed down moto version as well. Pretty cheap too IIRC for the ECM.

Danny Eslick had no problem winning the AMA DSB championship on a FI Buell. Same can be said for many other racers, but whatever floats your boat. : )

My carb motor 2000 M2 would blow the doors off my 2007 XB , and runs better in all conditions , plus I dont need a laptop and AFR gauge and a Dyno to tune it , SIMPLE ..

Fab up a manifold that will allow the Weber to be completely enclosed inside the airbox, install a Dyna ignition and remove ALL of the e-crap from the bike. It will end up with less than 10 wires on it. (SWAG) It will weigh less and it will be more reliable. When something does go wrong, you will need a wrench rather than a laptop.
I find this VERY attractive!

Megasquirt is no longer anything close to open source. In fact questions of modifications now get deleted and terse replies sent to your email. It has turned the work of many others into a purely for profit device.
