My warranty is about to expire, and I'm wondering if I should just take it in one last time to have a once over checkout.

I had it checked out about 5 months ago for excessive oil consumption, and they found out the valve was loose in the guides in the rear cylinder. They did a full top end re-build. I'm thinking of taking it back to have them do a standard service and check that the work they did on it has held up / fixed the issue. It still goes through oil, but not quite as bad.

One issue is the dealer I went to has now moved and been re-named, so I'm wondering if they'll even acknowledge the work they did before.

What do you think? will they be responsive to this, or want the standard $200 just to open a work order?

Of course, they'll probably want the work order. However, from what you've posted here, getting the previous work checked would still be a warranty issue. Especially as you're saying the problem is not fully resolved.

Careful what you ask for. It sounds like you're asking for a service check, which you would pay for, and a warranty check that you would not.

Give the shop a try. A good shop would try and keep you as a customer. A fail is just going to fail and probably not the ones you want working on your bike.

In any case, HD can make them do the warranty. Others here will guide you on that.

Be honest with them.
When mine was just about to expire, I brought mine in for a "10K" mile service at about 25,000 miles.
Tell them up front that the warranty is almost up and to keep an eye out for problems. (they didn't find anything wrong that time)

Remember that if they do find something that's covered by the warranty, H-D pays them to fix it so it's not like they're fixing it for free.
