Classes from the MSF tend to be A LOT easier to get into this late in the Fall, at least we had much smaller class sizes here in UT.

The [BRC] class will pass for your riding test here and then you just take the written exam and you're done. Does CA have a similar program with the MSF?

Levi,

Unless they've changed their policy, you can't do any of the testing at AAA. But - you can make an appt at DMV at the location of your choice on their website. I've done it a couple of times and they've been relatively on time - much better than just showing up and pulling a number.

Lil'buggles is right - your BRC cert will suffice for the riding test.

Yeah I plan on taking the MSF course again for;
a) the course material itself
b) the Geico discount
c) possibly the chance to skip the lollipop test at the DMV.

I took it many many years ago but of course I have no paper. I really want to get riding asap so I might just take the driving test and then do the MSF anyway for the other benefits.

Vosper I will definitely make an appointment at the DMV for that test. It's the only way these days.

I have the bike now. It's ten kinds of awesome. I'll get some pictures up when I'm not at work.

So far the number plates are off to see what it looks like without em, and the muffler cable is zip-tied open. I'll be doing the HID lights when the kit arrives in the mail. I need to set the suspension to my weight and replace a couple of little bolts that have taken leave of the motorcycle. Perhaps I'll replace the front tire too.

I can't ride the damn thing until I'm off of this Codeine and I get my permit anyway.

Congratulations, hope you get to enjoy it soon! Why leave the valve open? It's supposed to give you better torque down low and HP up high, does this not really work? Just curious. Stock trim has been good for me so far, I've got a 2000 M2 in the garage that's jetted, intake opened and piped and the XB motor seems a lot smoother and a bit quicker.

I adjusted my suspension two nights ago, have yet to ride it, but it was significantly different than the recommended setting for me. I hope to enjoy it like a new bike again on my next ride.

I found the tool for the fork preload was difficult to use with the hand guards on, ended up finding a 19mm socket that fit and did the job adequately (used a deep socket, not sue that it was required). Worked great for the shock preload.

cool man. I thought Id have to take off the handguards to adjust the fronts.

The preload for the rear is set on ONE, and I need it at SEVEN. So I have to adjust the preload collar all the way. I don't seem to have a spanner that's that size though.
I need to put together a kit of Buell tools for myself. I have a LOT of tools, but I just need a kit to stay with the bike.

Did they come with a wee kit of tools from the factory?

Check under the seat, there may be a small blue wallet,
that contains the tool kit.

Yes they do, it has a tool for the preload, handy since one end is for the front and one for the rear. Mine was stored just in front of the battery.

Also comes with the tool for removing the wheel lugs, you'll need that, eventually.

Perhaps one of our sponsors can get you a kit. I'll try to remember to snap a pic and post it up for you tomorrow. I can get one of the hand grip/vest wiring too if you'd like while I'm at it.

Little buggles,

I have found some 99 dollar tool kits for the Buell online. I think I'll just drop one of those under the seat.

Don't bust your ass on those pics of the wiring just yet, I'll be a long while getting to that. I haven't even figured out if I'm using self contained battery packs for my heated vest.

Those heated garments are kinda pricey too, so I'll probably just suffer this winter, and get em next year. I have some cold weather gear to wear under my clothes until I get the heated business.

There was a thread on the quick board where one of the sponsors was selling those kits for a huge discount, Grand Rapids I think. I don't believe they have the preload tool and the lug nut tool in them though.

Found it, I need to call them and see if they'll still give that price. Maybe not but the same retailer is selling them on Ebay for $60 or so I think.

Sounds expensive, the vest I mean. Mine came with a harness that just hooked to the battery. I zip-tied the lead to the factory harness to keep it in an easy to reach location at the gap between the seat and rear subframe.

The tool at the bottom is for adjusting spring preload, it's the right tool for the job. I'll save the wiring pics for later.

That's a good looking bike! Tires are looking well used. Hope you get to ride it soon.

While you are still in prep mode you may want to check your plugs and wires, I've read here that some XB's chafe the wires up, though mine have been fine so far.

I bought a Laminar lip from another badwebber, it does surprisingly well for pushing the air up off me. You are taller than I am though...

Plugs and wires are in top notch condition.

Regarding the wind chop, I'm going to wait for my first couple highway rides on it to evaluate the situation. The SS I test drove did a great job of keeping the wind off of me with a stock flyscreen. We'll see.
