A few months ago I test road a Hypermotard and I have never felt so at home on a street bike as I did that one and can't help lusting over it lately. Now I know I cannot afford to buy one right now so I was wondering since the xb9sx has a similar idea behind the design if any of you who own one has ridden the hypermoto and know if they feel similar as far as handling and ergos. If not what about the stt?

Sorry to say but your never gonna get the feel from any XB based bike that you did from the Duc. The balance and suspension feedback are just not the same. I've ridden my friends Hyper several times and it transitions from side to side so much quicker then our heavy harley lumped bikes ever thought of.

BT if that is so DO NOT test ride it you won't be able to stop thinking about it. That test ride I went on I just knew I was going to have to call Ducati of Austin and tell them to come pick there bike up that I was going to jail because it was that much fun.

the Ducati Hyper.... another over powered, over weight bike that is not really SuMo.

All of the limitations that you have with the Ducati, you will have with the CityX.
Yes I have ridden both. Neither is build for more than FireRoads.

City I think you have different intentions then some one like me. I have no intentions of ever riding such a bike off road so there for like the power of the hyper and the cityX. I like the way the Hyper rode on the street which is what it was made for so I was wondering since the SX was made with similar intentions being a kinda inner city hooligan type bike with both sport bike and sumo inspiration if it handles in a similar manner.

I liked the fact that I could throw it around on the street like a dirt bike but have the power of big bore twin, I liked the fact that I could drift it side ways like a flat track bike yet hall butt on the highway with out feeling like the engine is about to blow up like it would if I got a little jap sumo bike like they market for the street.

I was just wondering if a xb with those kinda ergos would feel the same way because if so then I will be trying to either convert my firebolt to a lightning settup or trade it for a lightning.

Checking out the difference in insurance might sober you up a bit.

well thats just it I realize I cannot afford the hyper at the moment which is why my intentions was to know if the SX feels the same as I could always wither trade my bike for an sx or convert it to such a bike.

I have a STT but I did not like the ergos that much. I switched to low bars (actually a clubman) and a different seat.

You just can't ride them like motards, too big and too heavy.

I had a SX. It was a hooligan sport machine. No a Mtard. too heavy, too well hooked to the ground. If you are sliding it, other than a burn out, you are on a fine edge. It is a bike that will lay over and drag pegs before sliding at speed.

Mtard is a dirt bike with street tires on crack. Totally different machine. If you cannot afford the Mtard you want, find a used thumpin' 650 and put street tires on it to satisfy your lust.

A killer motard would be a modern 450 class machine like the CRF or the KTM. Tighten and shorten the suspension, and put crazy sticky rubber on it.

The excitement you feel riding will be just the start. Once you realize that the factory interval for replacing the piston is 10 hours of run time (racing) or once a season (recreational use and commuting), the adrenaline rush really starts!

Makes me appreciate my street bike... ; )

That would be fun. And you can get 10k to 15k out of that before teardown, which is a lot more palatable. Heck, its probably a better motard than it is a dirt bike (too heavy). Good desert bike though!

Be a heck of a fun deals gap bike, if you can avoid getting tickets on it. I sure couldn't.

When I sold my S1, I was hoping to get a DRZ400SM, but I got a GSXR750 instead. I still want that SM, might be selling my rarely used ATV next. Can't have too many bikes!

I tarded my DR650 some time ago. That bike might be heavy for an SM but is way quicker in the tight twisties than the XB could ever be. Simply a different animal.

I test rode an Aprilia Dorsoduro. Very similar to the Hyper with respect to ergos, and I personally preferred the Aprilia overall. The 750 isn't as torquey as the big Duc, but it makes some pretty good spank. If it isn't enough for you (it was for me), I understand Aprilia will be squeezing a 1200 into the bike soon.

Like you, I felt right at home on both bikes with respect to both comfort and confidence. The deal breaker for me on both was the tiny gas tanks.

I don't know much about the aprilia but as for as the Duc goes and the tiny gas tank they do make a bigger one that goes from the front of the bike all the way back to the rear of the bike as an accessory. Only reason I know this is they had the tank on display in a bare frame at the Ducati shop in austin when I got to test ride the Hyper.

I did ride both the 7 and the 11 of the ducati and I am not sure if it was because I rode the 11 first, the fact that the 11's power was so similar to my buell, the fact that it had a clutch similar to that of the buell (as in stiffness), or the fact that I just was not impressed by the 7's power at all but I liked the 11 much better.

I rode both the 11 and the 7 today. I liked the 11 more overall, more due to the overall higher spec of components used than any lack of power in the 7. Both are very similar to my SX. Main differences are revving a bit higher, making all sorts of different but very beautiful sounds, and being taller and narrower. All the things I initially loved about my SX the HM has also. If my SX were to explode and I wasn't able to find a suitable used replacement I would probably get one.

Also road a Multistrada. While all the electronic stuff was a bit weird, I did like it more than the Uly I test road a while back. I could learn to love that large romanesque schnoz...

see if I never seen the multi and just read the press stuff about it I would think that bike was made for me but then they have to go and put pictures and stuff and then I realize I could never own such an ugly bike.

Since you mentioned the STT too I'll chime in... I purchased a STT in Feb. I don't agree with Radioelasais regarding the seat and bars though.

I found the high seat and moderate bars pretty comfortable. I'm 5'10" with a 33ish inseam though. That said, if it were my only bike, I'd probably get a lower bar or the Crossroads for more aggressive canyon riding and the occasional track day.

I did pick up a cheap Ss seat I'm cutting down a little for a different seating position, and of course the option to carry a passenger will be nice.

Regarding the CityX's engine, I have enjoyed the way the XB9's I've ridden spin up fast and seem smoother than the 12's. When I got to do track sessions on the various 1200cc demo bikes a couple years ago the STT was the funnest and my favorite of the bikes I rode. those were the XB12S, XB12R, and the XB12STT. I loved the taller suspension on the TT and found it much easier to toss into turns than the S and R. I suppose it was all in the wheel-base, seat height and bars. The S and the STT were easier for me to get my knee down on, but i have no idea of any lap time differences between any of the models. The STT was a blast, which is why I got one of those to compliment the more sporty ergo's on my M2.

It's fun and more neutral handling around town than the tuber, making it a lot more of the grocery getter for me. It's also fun to snap through the canyon roads. I like the hand guards, headlight grill and high fender too; the number plates came off in favor of passenger pegs though.

That 'Priller pictured above sure looks neat!

When I was teaching an ERC a few years ago to some service members one of the guys was riding a DRZ and having an absolute blast. It was hard for me to get him to stop doing stoppies on the braking exercises and speeding through the curves, he was having so much fun.
Those come up for sale around here every so often and aren't too much money.
